Fundraising group approves supplement for Wake Forest's Grobe

Associated Press
Updated: December 5, 2007, 11:04 PM ET

LITTLE ROCK -- A University of Arkansas private fundraising arm approved a salary supplement Wednesday for Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe, a strong indication that Grobe will replace Houston Nutt as the Razorbacks' coach.

There was no word from the university, however, on whether Grobe would replace Nutt, who quit Nov. 26 and was hired almost immediately at Ole Miss.

The Razorback Foundation raises funds privately for Arkansas athletic programs and pays coaches amounts far beyond their regular state salaries. Nutt, for instance, made $330,000 annually from the state but had a compensation package worth $1.5 million a year -- much of the extra coming from Foundation funds.

They are on a 7th page of possible coaching replacements on the Wake Scout site without any mention of Coach Rocco. Let's hope it stays that way.

With the improvement in Wake's football fortunes...I would be surprised if they even consider dipping into the I-AA ranks for a coach.

Ugh... can we hide Rocco away for awhile? Pretend he doesn't exist--maybe they would just forget about him...

If anyone asks for permission to talk with him, we could always grant it and make sure someone puts Ed Gomes on the phone instead.

This is another case of LU fans over-reacting. Has he been a coordinator at a major I-A college? No. He's been a head coach for two years in I-AA. There is no way Wake would risk making such a move. Relax and take a deep cleansing breath, people.

Well this is interesting. I was hoping Grobe would stay at wake for at least 10 more years. I think it's better though, if he was going to leave in the next 5, for him to leave now than in 2 or 3 years because if Rocco continues his success, and even improves on it for the next 2-3 years, he would be a bigger draw than he is right now. Let's face it, we still don't know how good of a recruiter he is.

We just need something to talk about. Yesterday was a very boring day on FlameFans.com.

Actually, yes. Rocco was the co-defensive coordinator at UVa before he came here.

You may resume fretting.

No he wasn't. He was associate head coach and linebackers coach.

Associate Head Coach? That and 75 cents gets you a USA Today. I am NOT demeaning anything Coach Rocco has done...simply pointing out that IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!

That's an oversight on the SID's part. Rocco was co-defensive coordinator along with Golden at UVa.

I'd be willing to bet the SID's copied that from Rocco's resume. What do you have that says he was Co D Coordinator?

danny rocco was not co-defensive coordinator at UVA. manson is right..associate head coach and linebackers coach, and he was recruiting coordinator for a few years.
