He immediately called a second TO right when the Bills kicker ran on the field.

That is an unsportsmanlike conduct and a 15 yard penalty making it a very makeable 31 yard FG.

I wanted to come on here and defend Gibbs because of the emotions of the day and the fact that the NFL rulebook is 3128792647268764256 pages long, but I just can't do it. Joe you screwed the poochie here brother.

good thing you didn't because that would have been the biggest crock of crap i would of heard

take it easy folks, lots of coaches have poor clock management skills. It's something that you can learn, even at 105 years old. I didn't hear anybody calling for Shannahan's head when Denver took a TO and the kicker missed it and then made it on his 2nd try. I also didn't know that was a rule. Well, I thought it was a rule, but then I swear I've seen back to back called before without penalty. Maybe that was in college or something.

but noone is as much of an allstar about it as joe gibbs

It's a recent rule change. You can't call 2 timeouts in a row anymore, not in the NFL anyway.

Ditka said on the radio that he was going to take a second once in his career and asked the ref who said it would be a penalty. So Ditka almost did it to.

You can in any other situation--the ref is supposed to ignore the second called TO and allow the play to continue. However, in a situation where the coach is trying to freeze the kicker, when a 2nd TO is called, it's an immediate unsportsmanlike conduct and 15 yarder.

i wouldnt' be a huge crock if he hasn't been making these kind of mistakes the past 2 seasons nearly every game...but alas

In all honesty, though, as dumb as it was, the ref should have told gibbs that it would have been called a penalty. Refs "advise" the coaches all the time. Give the guy a break. What lost the game and previous games has been poor red zone play calling.

Death "in the family" or not, you're still required to go out and do your job. Blowing a call that 90% of football fans would know is nuts.

For me it's the big picture...clock management...botched play calls...yesterday's double TO fiasco. Either Gibbs needs to go or surround himself with better generals other than just the O and D coordinators.

I think if anyone watched Joe Gibbs' performance today, during the funeral for Sean Taylor -- and how Gibbs stressed the need for everyone to have a personal relationship with Christ -- and even prayed the prayer of salvation -- you would say that Joe Gibbs is the right man to lead this team right now.

If you talk to any GM in any sport, they will tell you that in-game strategy is not the first thing they look for when hiring a coach. There are so many other aspects -- namely, leadership ones -- that cannot be learned in books or by studying x's and o's.

The dude called two timeouts in a row. The Redskins haven't improved in the last few years. That's a shame, really it is. The game probably has passed Gibbs by. But that doesn't take away from the fact that he is a great leader -- in fact, the one who can best lead the Redskins.
