(Was broadcasting always what you wanted to do?

No, actually wanted to be a history major. As it turned out I started the curriculum and I met a guy who was a radio major who wanted to be the voice of the Tarheels. He and I got to be friends and he started up a stand and got to do some women's games for Liberty and you can be my color guy if you want and we're just going to record into a voice recorder. And I said OK, I've heard enough and listened and thought I could do that.

When I first did it, I thought this is really fun. And then the more I pursued it and if I wanted to get on the campus radio station, I'd have to change majors. So that's when I changed majors, and then got on the campus station, and it was a small station and small group and we were able to produce our own broadcast, talk radio and calling shows and things like. And he and I did that all four years in college. Another station at the church over there had a full time job with them. Gained experience doing that and kept doing sports got on the local cable station in Lynchburg did some basketball and baseball on television)

I lived in the same dorm with Brian for several years I believe. He's a solid individual. To be honest though I have a tough time recognizing him in the photos on IL sport's website. Guess I'm getting old. He's got much more of a TV face now. I'm also not sure how to put the above quote in a box.

click the quote button after hi-lighting the text, then either "submit" or "close tags" then "submit"- that will make the post show the text in a quote box

Brian was a friend of mine back in the day as well. For those that don't know, he was the radio voice of the Anaheim Angels before taking the main gig at Illinois.

He & Mike Tilley were inseparable back when they were on campus. Brian was the radio voice of the L-Mets & L-Sox while still in school.
