The Rays mascot will be updated to the new image - a ray of sunbeam.

"Our new team name and new look express the vibrancy of our organization," said Rays president Matt Silverman. "The Tampa Bay Rays will shine, on the field and in our community. We will be a great source of pride for our region."

They really would have been hard pressed to have made a dumber decision.

though the name is completely stupid....i guess i understand why they are trying to change their image....but man, what in the world are they thinking?

I, for one, am opposed to any team nicknames that don't include Native American imagery. I think they should have called them the "Tampa Bay Chiefs" or "Blackhawks" or "Redskins".

and for that matter i think we should start incorperating the rebel flag into some team logos. i mean ole miss would be a perfect start. they are the rebels....

The Tampa Bay Rays will still finish dead last in the AL East next season.
