one of the best teams ever? they are scoring and beating down teams at an unprecedented level. they just dropped a 52 spot on the redskins, who were ranked #3 in the nfl in total defense and did have the #1 ranked pass defense. one espn nfl guy said that the patriots don't have a run game, but that they are so good they don't even need one.

It is way too early to call them one of the best ever...
...but right on time to call them one of the CLASSLESS teams of all time with BELIJERK!

The Bill Simmons' proclaimed Eff You scores in the 4th quarter. Can't wait to see Bill get his.

well if the #1 ranked skins pass defense would have decided to leave the vicinity of DC it wouldn't have been a problem.

wow im not even close to a patriots fan but your a big whiner. At this rate bill will get his....it will come in the form of a ring at the end of the season. If i were him, id give every team and EFF score.....why not it only adds to the fear some teams will have when taking the field against you. Not to mention Liberty did one this week, no matter if bentley called a timeout or not we still did it.

Just my opinion...I am a firm believer of sports ettiquitte...and Bill doesn't have it this year.

Good point. I would have brought it up myself but I didn't want to seeing as how I'm a newbie and people probably wouldn't like it.
The supposed "running up the score" is just a big Eff You to the rest of the league. If I were a Patriot, this is what I would think: You don't think they were good enough to win any championships, you think our titles are tainted? Well Eff You, we'll show you we're good enough and make you pay for it over and over and over again until you stop me.
It's like playing basketball against someone who runs their mouth and hasnt won anything (ala Chargers players and other NFL folk who were saying their titles are tainted when they haven't won anything) - you can take some of it, but when it gets to be too much you want to beat the living crap out of the guy and show him who's boss. It's not the Patriots fault, it's not the Patriots coaches' fault for showing no mercy on the rest of the league, it's the players and coaches who ran their mouth. I hope they continue making the rest of the NFL look like a JV league.

I will reserve my judgement on the Patriots until after the big one against the Colts. If they can hang half a hundred on Indy, they have my vote.

i don't expect then to score that much, but if they can win somewhat easily - meaning the result of the game is pretty evident with 10-15 minutes left in the game - then i will have no doubts in proclaiming the pats as one of the best ever.

I hated to hear one Redskin whine after the game about NE running up the score. How pathetic. I'm a Redskin fan and the team needs to be more concerned about their own state of affairs than NE Pats. They deserved the beat down, for not showing up.

I don't want to see someone running up the score, but it's the freakin' pros! These players are the top 2% of all the colleges. To whine about someone beating your professional team by too many points is what we used to call the "losers limp". I coach varsity boys basketball and I'm particularly sensitive toward running up the score. We play teams that are clearly below our skill level sometimes (we were up 25-0 after the first quarter in a game a couple years ago). I don't want to embarrass people, but in the pros it is different. You should show some class with a big lead, but these are millionaires playing millionaires. If NE can score 50 points on another NFL team, the fans of the "butt whooped" team should take their hats off to them IMO.
New England has only one potential loss on their regular season schedule. They may lose some games, but Indy should be the only questionable game. Outside of the Indy game, they really should breeze through the rest of their season (although it is near impossible to go undefeated in the NFL these days).

its way too early but even if they continue at 70% of the pace they are on this is looking to be one of the greatest teams in nfl history...games are over by mid 2nd quarter.
as for running up the score....its cliche but rings true to me....if you don't like it, stop it.
and he pulled his starters after the first series of the 4th quarter....i'm fine wiht that....noone complained when dungy let peyton throw for tds in the 4th quarter with the game in hand so he could get the record....now people because belichek is an awesome a-hole, every complains....
he pulled brady and crew after that drive....then the skins couldn't even stop cassell, evans, gafney, and faulk....WITH THEIR STARTERS....what do you want the pats to do?....
i have no problem going for it on 4th down....cassell has little experience....if it had been brady still in there...yeah but it wasn't....
he had to put in gutierrez and eckel in so washington could stop them....
are they screw you td's? sure does he want brady to get the record? sure....
don't whine when your team can't compete....

Geez, people who whine about "running up the score", just need to go play soccer.
Pansies.

so 2 things: 1. I would love to see how "cool" the golden boy is with someone hitting him every play. The guy is never touched and has all day to throw.
2. Randy Moss' pushoffs are bordering downright silly. He is a phenom with his hands. Too bad you can't do that.

It wouldn't have been a problem if he didn't put Brady BACK IN THE GAME in the fourth quarter. He better be careful--some over-zealous DL is going to take a shot at his knees if they keep play-actioning on 4th down, up by 40, with 2 minutes left.

That's the way the game is supposed to be played. Self regulated.

I hate the patriots more then anybody...but all these people whining about running up the score are just driving me crazy....they are NFL players, they are suppose to be the best in the world, and yet their starters can't even stop the patriot reserves....I'm sorry I have no sympathy on players that get paid millions to play a game and play it well

Since when is Tom Brady a reserve? I thought he was an MVP.

yeah, the whinning is that the reserves were not in. I don't wish injury on anyone, well most people, but it was stupid for them to leave the starters in. It situations like that where it's nice to see a coach learn his lesson by losing a key player for an extended period of time.

for most of the 4th brady is out....
SJ are you saying you agree with this whining?? these are professional athletes, being paid to play a sport...they should have some heart and STOP the patriots...they keep talking like its the patriots running up the score, but last I checked these teams are still playing their starters on defense...
its stupid for these teams to get upset...being paid millions and you are whining because a team is just so much superior to you....
plus why shouldn't the patriots run up the score all the can when there were some people out there questioning their championships because of the whole spy crap....now they are out to proove they are just that good....
I see nothing wrong with this, and I think people need to just stop whining...its just stupid and makes your team look even weaker in my opinion....

I kept thinking the same thing as I watched the 4th quarter. I almost expected after the whistle blew on one falst start on NE that the Redskins DE was going to keep coming and bury him. It's going to happen if they keep doing this, some guy is going to claim he didn't hear the whistle and Brady's leg is going to snap in two. And I can't say that I will be entirely disappointed. When you're up by at least 4 scores and he's still in, you are asking for it.

I say this even though NE is making me a pretty penny every week, it's like free money every sunday. The running up the score takes all the risk off of laying the line with NE.

This isn't college it's the pro's...I have no problems with it all!!!! I am not a Pats fan but it's not there fault thtat no one can stop them....They are getting paid tons of money and if they can't do there job then too bad!!! I knew we were going to take a beating when we played them but I wasn't mad because they are that much better we are (Browns)
