The NFL in London

What a great waste of time. All of the news reports I read were full of pretentious Brit comments about "American Football". Apparently what we play is just a wussy version of Rugby. According to them, they don't even need 300 lb. "tubs of lard" to play that.
Why did the NFL even bother? The only reason Wembley sold out is because it was a spectacle of sorts. I hate Euro snobbery.

I'm read and occasionally post on the Liverpool message board, and I asked the question earlier this week if anyone cared, and half of them didn't even know the game was happening.

No. In rugby you can only hit from directions where a player can see you coming. That's why they don't need pads. The hits aren't nearly as bonecrushing as in the NFL. They don't need "tubs of lard" because they can't block in rugby.
I'm not saying they're not tough, but the crap about American football players wearing pads gets old. I'd love to see a rugby player take the constant full-sprint hits and tackles in the NFL without pads for just one game.

Troof! If NFL players didn't wear pads, there would be at least a few fatalities every season. These men are bigger, faster and stronger than some little rugby player. There aren't many Saragoosa "tubs of goo" in the NFL these days. The 350 pound players are pretty fit. As fit as a 350 pound person can be.

Yup. And what do rugby players who cross over into the NFL become? Kickers. Case closed.

Darren Bennett was a punter for the Chargers for a number of years (of course he played Aussie Rules which is kinda like a cross between rugby and soccer with the physicality of hockey)
