Check out this photo gallery from App St's homecoming. They just do things right there, from the parade, to the tailgating, to the ceremonies at halftime (homecoming king and queen, former athletes, best float from the parade, etc). I can't wait for the day that we can get an atmosphere like this.

Boy do you love App St. Our parade used to be just as good, minus a couple of championship trophies. It may still be, I havent seen it the last couple of years. The biggest difference is ours is on campus, and this one looks like it's off. But I'm relatively unimpressed.

I knew you'd be the one giving me crap for App. I have a ton of friends there, know people who have played there, etc. That's why I know so much about them.


The thing they have that we don't is clubs and Greek life. We're the only school I know of that doesn't have clubs. Most of the time in the parades, the clubs and Greek's have a float competition. If we had clubs, it'd make for a better parade as well.

I've never heard clubs here advertised like at other schools. There's not a club day each semester or a list of clubs on the LU site or anything like that.

there is...at the beginning of the semester they all line up down demoss....

well, actually, now that i think of it, this semester I am not sure they did that...but they have done it every other year i have been here

I never have heard of club day, and you never see things mentioned around campus. It's not nearly as prominent at the schools I've been at.

you're right...but when i first got here it was different, the focus on clubs seems to be fading for some reason....but most of the clubs...wait no...all of the clubs were lame anyways...which is probably why they didn't have club day this year...

We need a good "club-life" since we don't have Greek Life. Clubs add so much to a campus it's not even funny.

Well, as dumb as it may sound, Lambda Lambda Lambda has been replaced with Dorm xx. You hang out, eat, live, sleep, etc. with your Dorm. And there's a lot of pride in your particluar dorm. They actually even had every Dorm make a float for homecoming back when I was banging. Obviously it's not exactly the same because there's no alcohol involved, but it's the same basic concept.

I agree completely about the dorm life being like Greek Life here. If we were to promote more dorm things like that (float competition, etc) then it'd be great. There are so many creative people on this campus that if you offered a reward for top 3 floats ($300, $200, $100 for the dorm, or something) we could have an awesome parade.

I think they did away with the dorm float competition because whoever was in charge of Student Life left. But it was pretty cool. We made a huge Doghouse that opened up and he had a big guy dressed up like an eagle and he would beat on the guy we had dressed as a dog. (we were playing G-W that year) It had fireworks on it for when we passed by the judges too. We lost out to a jeep that they built a 30 foot high mug around it. And covered it in Bown and White balloons. It was a Rootbeer "float". Stupid corny joke put them over the top. I forget how much the prize money was.

See, that would make the parade something everyone made sure they stopped to watch. Each year you could have a theme depending on the team we're playing, and it could be great.

There are fliers up all over campus and I am sure there will be announcements in hall meetings and stuff on the splash page...there may have already been announcements posted....I think there is a $600 first prize...but I could be wrong

There's a float competition, but it's just a general "get your buddies together and make a float" competition. If they focused it on the dorms, something people here already have pride in, then it would go off even better. There were like two floats in last year's parade. It was terrible.

well, its not like people aren't trying....people haven't had much pride in their school, and they don't care....I don't normally come in and defend much of anybody...but this one is on the students...they need to step up and do it...even when they do dorm competitions only a handful of dorms get involved...this one is on the students

The dorm tailgating last year was great when they had the competition. It's all a matter of how it's marketed and how they take it to the students.
