A Sea Of Red

I'm pretty surprised that nobody started a discussion about this.
The question is, how much does this hurt the NBA?

I haven't watched a full game since #23 was wearing red, so I'm not a great judge on this one.

I stopped even caring about the NBA after the whole Artest deal. I know its sterotypical but the majority of NBA players are thugs and besides who wants to watch NBA when college basketball is by far more exciting to watch.

because college basketball ends after the first few days of april and the nba continues until june.

haven't watched much since the days of Dr. J, Andrew Toney, Moses Malone, Bobby Jones, Daryll Dawkins and that new kid- Barkley. Heard he may be good some day

It's true. Sports are pretty much unwatchable from April until August.

college basketball is more "exciting" because it happens quickly not because its better basketball....the nba playoffs take f-o-r-e-v-e-r...

somehow i knew as soon as i posted that i would get ripped for it. Its summer what can i say? I'm not an idiot. i know college B-ball ends beginning of april. i'm just saying... i'd rather watch Trick shot pool on espn2 than hte NBA. and yes the playoffs last forever. yet another reason i don't like the NBA.

I am suprised by this whole deal. Knowing what type of scrutiny officials are under and especially the NBA's pre occupation with Vegas. The NBA is very scared and conscious about the role of gambling. I know of an incident where an official did not shoot a pair of free throws at the end of the game b/c it would not have affected the outcome (win or lose) The phone was ringin by the time they hit the locker room saying that it WAS important b/c it affected the point spread!! Also, they keep their roster of officials pretty close to vest b/c there are bookies out there who break down each officials record against each team home and away so they don't want that getting out any sooner than necessary. Although I think that has changed recently.

Now that is very interesting. In the NFL, there is no extra point after a TD in OT. I'm not sure if one is kicked if the winning team scores a TD with nothing left on the clock in regulation. I wonder if that's a rule or if they just don't bother with it.

I don't think it is a rule. I think the defending team can choose to defend the kick, or just walk off of the field.

It happened to UNC against Az. State in 2003 (I believe). Az. St. scored a go ahead touchdown with no time on the clock to win by one. UNC chose not to force them to kick the extra point.

well that was dumb, because can't the defending team score on an extra point? I think the rules on that vary from league to league.

Yes, you can score on a blocked extra point (it's worth 2).

But, nothing says they have to kick it. Az. St. could have lined up & taken a knee, or thrown the ball 20 rows deep in the stands.

I have talked to several College officials and a former NBA ref about this topic.....And they are all shocked...but I agree with you Haize....there is more than likely a few others involved...Which is really sad...but they always say you can be bought if the price is right....

Another aspect is that this referee was approached by members of the mafia who were threatening him and his family if he didn't do what he was told?

Maybe I'm niave' but I don't buy that he's completely guilty, not yet, anyway.
