That school needs to just give up, shut down and sell off all of their property. They really have nothing going for them.

Not true...their men's tennis program is set to dominate the Big South over the next couple of years.

Ok, maybe you're right...they have nothing going for them if thats all they have to brag about.

radford is a growing state school that has good programs. however the commitment to athletics is awful. i really hope that they can turn things around because i loved when we had a good rivalry with them.

Their clsoe proximity to Tech really makes it tough fro them to attract the type of attention and fanbase you need to flourish. Its particualrly sad when you think back a decade ago when they were solid across the board in the Big South.

That's part of the reason I have switched most of my attention for future rivalry up toward Lexington. They are closer and they seem to have a passionate (albeit relatively small) alumni & fanbase. It makes for fun atmosphere particularly as their hoops & baseball programs have stepped up. I'd love to see their football team get better so our games can have greater meaning since they already have been among the most entertaining.

Agreed, Sly, VMI is a better rivalry for us than Radford is, for a number of reasons:

1. VMI has football, & their Rats have to do push-ups after every score.
2. The Keydets wear wool uniforms to class, & their rules are stricter than ours.
3. VMI's campus is as old as ours is new.
4. There's a greater risk poking fun at VMI guys than Radford girls, because if you make a Keydet mad enough, he could kill you with his bare hands.

I prefer the rivalry with Radford better than VMI.

I think if they would put some resources up for it they could be very good. It's an easy school to make good. They've got 3000 more students than Coastal, they're a state school, and their academics aren't high. It's not hard to recruit to that.

Super, have you ever been to an away basketball game at Radford? Pull-out bleachers, a sheet for a roof, very few fans in attendance, and their fans have no passion or excitement for their home team. At least the VMI students are loyal and passionate for their team, and are bold enough to loudly poke fun at their visiting teams.

A few years back the Radford Rowdies had turned Dedmon into a tough place to play. Sadly those days have gone. Perhaps the new staff can turn things around on campus. I'd love to see all schools in the league improve both on the court and off.

I've never been, but look at Coastal: a gym that seats maybe 1000 and is smaller than my high school gym. Not to mention it's in an academic building and has classrooms all around it, along with a couple small computer labs. If they can get students there then Radford can. All it takes is a commitment and marketing.

Yeah...RU used to have a very strong basketball following and the Dedmon Center used to be nearly impossible to win at. But once Dr. Ron Bradley left the bench, their program and support have gone straight downhill...
