This is an article from the College Sporting News about the much-talked-about Non-Scholarship Football Summit that took place in Chicago a week or so ago. It basically turns into a blush piece on Patty Viverito, the commissioner of the Pioneer League, but it also lists the summit attendees, one of whom is a fellow -- and heretofore non-football -- Big South school.

Non-scholarship FCS: The Vision Thing

Charles Burton, CSN Columnist

Non-scholarship football is a part of the Division I Football Championship Subdivision that is frequently misunderstood, sometimes misrepresented, and sometimes even has teams worthy of national rankings.

This tumultuous week – which featured the death of one football conference and the birth of a single, unified home for Division I non-scholarship football – has led to fundamental changes for this part of the FCS.

Importantly, most of these changes are not ones of realignment, but ones of vision.
The summit included the schools of the PFL (Butler, Davidson, Dayton, Drake, Jacksonville, Morehead State, Valparaiso, San Diego), the schools of the MAAC that are committed to non-scholarship football after 2007 (Marist, Iona, La Salle) and others like Campbell, out of North Carolina who had announced their intention of resurrecting their football program that last played a down in 1953, and Detroit Mercy, Evansville, Harding, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
High Point, and St. Bonaventure (scheduled but did not attend).
