Samford University football player Michael Sherrod Hall is being held on federal bank robbery charges after being arrested in connection with the robbery of a Hoover bank Friday morning.

Hall, 20, was stopped on Interstate 20 East at 11:15 a.m. Friday in Douglas County, Ga., by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department - two hours after a man used a handgun to rob the AmSouth Bank at 102 Inverness Center Plaza in Hoover, police said.

If they would just pay student-athletes we wouldn't have to worry about this. Sad.

Oh, so he was knocking over banks in Arkansas before he got to Samford. That explains everything. I guess the admissions staff just forgot to ask him any "Heat"-related questions before letting him into the school.

I've been on vacation...(and I actually have a life besides this supposed "forum", unlike some of the other misfits and rejects in here.

What do you guys expect me to say in this guy's defense? He obviously screwed up, and he's no longer a part of our program. Other players have been dimissed in the past for smaller violations, just like at any other university, just as a regular student would be expelled.
It just amazes me that people such as Libertine base their entire evaluation of university's character on the acts of one football player. As for our admissions office, they ask the same "heated" questions your college does, and I know that because I applied to both schools. So before you go badmouthing my alma mater why don't you get off your soapbox and open your eyes to reality. I would type more, but I have to go hold up a bank.

Come on, hoops. We're just having a little fun. We certainly have had our embarrassments recently at the school (although not in our football program(.

This is a messageboard. I don't have to be fair and I can take as many cheap shots as I want at other schools. That's reality.

Out in the real world, yeah, I might feel bad for the Samford program, especially since it wasn't so long ago that one of our own was arrested for much the same thing -- that kid had, at least, already been removed from the program. But, what goes around, keeps going around and, on here, all we have to do is argue about. So, feel free to pull up that soapbox of your own, hoops. We can yell at each other until football season starts.

I apologize in advance for this lengthy post, but I have to clarify a few issues, and I write for a living, so this is just a natural result.
It's funny, because a few months ago, you were whining for my removal some of my comments, because they were interpreted as trash talk, but you use a double standard for your own statements
Anyway, back to the main point. My question is, do you really have nothing better to do than to dig around the birmingham news (al.com) for dirt about my former school? I'm not combing through lynchburg's daily paper for dirt on your players. I have yet to see any form of maturity within this forum.
At this point, I suppose that's wishful thinking.
I'm simply a big fan of small college football, and I enjoy discussing topics such as the future of christian education. I'm also not afraid to present provactive and controversial questions.
The bottom line is, as many of you already know, the actions of one football player doesn't represent an entire university. The criminal's act also doesn't change the fact that I went to a tremendous college that still adheres to christian values. For some reason, nobody on here ever applies enough context to realize that I harbor no negative thoughts about your school. I even applied there. MY FINAL CHOICE CAME DOWN TO LU AND SU!
I chose Samford because I believed God opened the door for me to go there, because Samford's academic standards are tougher than Liberty's. ( My roommate, the infamous jacksparrow81, is a Liberty grad will even concede that fact.)
All this to say, I don't thinkwe gain much to point out the mistakes of athletes at christian colleges, all that does is reenforce the false but prevalent mindset that christian colleges (and christians in general) are myopic, narrow-minded and too judgmental.

I understand your sentiments, hoops. But do you honestly believe this was done in a mean-spirited fashion? I think I can state that most of us enjoy the banter with you. And has has been stated in this thread we have our issues (the Unabomber wannabe).

That's actually where I first saw it and we can all thank "Cocky" from Jacksonville State for that. Here's the irony though, Hoops. The only reason I posted it on this board was b/c of your prior smack here. I said before that what goes around just keeps going around. That's actually incorrect. If it were, I would have gone to your board and started jabbering about it.
