This is a pretty good article with theories on why people hate Duke and how Coach K is fed up with it. He lists some ways they're going to try to fix it.

i thought the 2 most interesting theories on why people hate duke were because Dickie V always praises them and people hate him, and because people can hate on the white players without worrying about organizations like the NAACP caring. It listed that as a possible reason for redick, paulus, and mcroberts being openly trashed by the media

It was not always like this. People loved it when the moribund Blue Devils got good with Spanarkle, etc in the 70's, and again with Johnny Dawkins and gang in the 80's. (Few on here will remember that in the early and mid-70's, Duke was one of the door mats...the REAL rivalry was UNC and NC State...especially with Norm Sloan and gang).
It started going south when Laetner stepped on the player (Kentucky or UConn) in the tournament and got nothing for it...and the swagger those Blue Devils started walking with. I think it peaked with JJ, who had that swagger and took every cheap shot thrown at him, burried the dagger 3's, and would mouth-off or gesture to fans...in all cases except in the NCAA tournament.

i agree with the article that duke is picked on by the media. it seems like they are hated more than any other school in college basketball. and say what you will, but duke is not the only school who has had players get away with stuff or be cocky. i think the media needs to get off duke and talk about something else

For as much as Dook is "hated" in the media, they are also glorified for every little thing.
Dook is hated for the same reason that UNC is, that Florida is, that Ohio State is: they're good.

i hate duke, but i'm a kentucky fan. i think you can figure out why if you are familiar with 90s college basketball.

You weren't even three yet.
Or was that 92?
If so:
You weren't even four yet.

I would have thought it was this:
"During the second half of the game, Christian Laettner, the player of the year and sole collegiate member of the US Olympic team, took his foot and stepped on freshman Aminu Timberlake after a dead ball. A technical foul was called on Laettner. Later, Laettner won the game in overtime with a last second shot.
When asked about the incident after the game, Laettner first tried to come up with the excuse that he was simply trying to find his balance. A claim which is completely ludicrous to anyone who witnessed the replay."

If anything, he was helping UK out by giving them two free points and the ball.
But, wait, then he beat them anyway, didn't he?

What the Kentucky fans don't mention, is that it should never have come to that. Their top player fouled out when he was PRESSING in the backcourt, earlier in the game (either late in the 2nd half or early in OT). That is what lost the game for them.

Hey Fumble....you better change your location to
Campus North. Doc used to rip the marketing materials he would proof each time it said North Campus or East Campus.
However, I agree that North Campus & East Campus sound better.
