One of the guys on AGS posted the Top 25 Preseason rankings as well as the All-American team.

Here's a sample of regional interest to us:

  7. Delaware
  11. Furman
  15. Wofford
  17. Towson
  19. JMU
  21. Coastal Carolina
  22. Hampton

Two Big South players received 1st Team honors:

• WR Jerome Simpson, Coastal Carolina
  DL Brian Johnston, Gardner-Webb

I don't put too much stock in these rankings. To Street and Smith 1AA football is an afterthought and not much time is spent on that with most of the effort in the 1A side of things. Most of the rankings are based on past performance, reputation over the years , and little else. I remember LU being ranked 9th preseason in S & S before they flopped and ended up 5-6 about 10 years ago. Not sure why Delaware is ranked so high (7th). Maybe due to reputation and some incoming transfers. I didn't expect LU to be there maybe due to lack of scheduling or poor conference, I don't really know. I think that we have to prove ourselves on the field before we get respect from these publications.
