They're also supposedly looking at McPhail coming in a COO...that may even be a bigger move. Flanagan may find his way back into the broadcast booth.

I wonder what will happen with Leo Mazzoni? He left as Atlanta pitching coach after years of huge success to work with his old Pizano buddy Perlazzo.

All coaches will be staying...including Leo...according to the info during the press conference.

Has to be Girardi, IMO. They need a fresh start-- they can get a kings ransom for Tejada at the deadline. I would imagine Leo sticks it out to the end of the season and retires. He's burnt a few bridges in Atlanta.

Atlanta doesn't need him back. No one should even suggest that.

It's going to come, sooner or later. McDowell isn't exactly lighting the world on fire with the guys he has now, but he doesn't even have half the talent Mazzone had while with the Bravos.

Mazzone should retire and ride off as one of the top-3 pitching coaches of all time.

Unless McPhail changes the way the front office is run i.e. "keeps Angelos away from decisions" this is probably a bad move for Girardi. From what I hear, Angelos won't even allow the O's to sign pitchers for more than 3 year contracts. While I admire his caution and understand this is smart, you'll never sign quality players without "sticking your neck out."

Or pitchers whove had a surgery..... I think ESPN had a thing about it
