As will the CWS be missing him. Who the heck thought Eric Young could be an analyst? Fernando Vina is decent...but EY is E-Yuck!

Yea Fernando Vina is killing me on Baseball Tonight. We actaully sit and counted how many times he said "square it up" the other night, example. Pujols is really swing it good now, he's "squaring everything up". It's killing me.

I totally agree. you can't just throw every xjock into tv. Hershiser is good but kind of annoying. Steve Philips is also okay. My favorite's are Olney and Kurkjan. Peter Gammons is also really knowledgeable but he has kind of an annoying voice.
The worst announcer ever is Joe Morgan. Sometimes I just want to gag him. He never shuts up.

Chris Berman is awful too. Most overpaid personality on TV.

Sweet...a kindred spirit. I bet you detest Tim McCarver, too. Olney and Kurkjian RULE.

Man do I have the best Steve Phillips story ever. At the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings he was as drunk as you can be stumbling everywhere, talking to some ex-MLB'r saying "he didnt say that" then some intern walked up to him and said Mr. Phillips I'd like to show you my resume he told her, Yeah, lets talk about your resume follow me........
I'm thinking the same thing happened then that ended up costing him his job with the mets (besides the awful moves and W and L's)
I have a McCarver story too!

Yeah, can't stand McCarver either. My grandmother used to call him motor mouth McCarver. That was a funny story about Philips.
I met Phil Rizzuto once prior to a game at old Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. He was cool announcer even if he was a bit eccentric. Eccentric is better than a know it all though.
I have Comcast's mlb extra innings so I've been able to see a lot of the different teams announcer's this season.
As a Yankee fan, naturally I enjoy the hometeamers for YES. Most of the other announcer's come off as really anti-yankee especially the Orioles announcers.
Of the opposing team's announcers, I kind of liked the Twins announcers this season. Of course, Vin Scully is always a treat.

I agree, Kel....it is great to listen to the announcers across the country. The one I absolutely can't stand is the chick for the Yankees...she is out of control and adds absolutely NOTHING to the games on XM. The Red Sox guys are pretty good, too. The Royals and Mariners are simply brutal, though.

This is a sort of a tangent, but a good story (ies) none the less. One of my former co-workers used to work for the Charlotte Knights and dated Joe Crede. Said that 75% of the players were on roids (no surprise) but the best story I got from her was when she attended the GM meeting and the Sox GM apparently got caught in an alley next to his hotel with a hooker giving him some attention.

Realist...since this thread has run amok...here's the latest from an MLB player trying to do his best NBA impersonation:
A 17-year-old foster girl living with a relative of Elijah Dukes told police the Devil Rays outfielder got her pregnant.
The girl, expected to give birth Nov. 5, told investigators she and Dukes had consensual sex on the living room sofa. She said Dukes got angry when she and another person confronted him about the pregnancy. "Yeah, we sat down and told him and he got mad and threw a Gatorade at me," she told investigators. Dukes is already known to have had at least five children with four different women. This is yet another incident that could add to the Rays' desire to ship him out of town.

Yeah, I don't like the Yankees chick either. Then again, I don't like very many female announcers and believe most of them would be bettter suited in the kitchen. Michael Kay and John Sterling are good. Sterling has gone over the top the last 10 years or so. Prior to that he was 'slightly' more objective. I think he's gotten carried away with his home run calls--finding nick names for all the players. Its okay once in a while but he does it every time now.
