Thanks. Many of us have just been waiting for the official word. I'm sure some people at Coastal are glad to just be able to go ahead and move forward. He always had the wandering eye.

Wonder if we could speculate on who's Coastal is going to hire without if turning into a name-calling contest???

Their AD needs to take the blame here. Probably one of the worst hires ever. I bet they have no contingency plan either as they had no way of seeing this coming

Anyone close to RD think he could be a candidate? Seriously...he has the resume and is available...and certainly knows the conference.

I wouldn't bet on it. If you were an AD, would you hire a coach with 6 wins outside of the conference against teams with a combined record of 23-65 for the 3 D1 schools we beat and the other 3 schools were D2 or NAIA? Wouldn't care if his name was Bubba or Bozo , I'm not interested unless I am looking for early retirement, (probably forced).

Some are and some aren't. Most have been glad he's gone but not too happy with how long he waited.

I get a good one out every once in a while but Lib, Medic and Luconn get me almost every day. Those guys are comedians.

Ed Conroy?

boy, I hope they can do better than a guy who head-coached all of 1 yr at El Cid
evidently a former assistant at CCU, and their AD is stating any new hire WILL retain the current assistants
that situation sounds worse all the time
David Hobbs?

1) No way they get Conroy...I don't see why he would bail after only one year at his alma mater to go to Coastal (it would be a mild pay raise, but it wouldn't be worth the slap in the face it would be to the Citadel nation).
2) The requirement that the assistants have to stay on really handcuffs the amount of candidates they could probably get and really handcuffs the next coach. With that requirement, they might as well promote one of their assistants.

Well, it's a tough time of the year to be looking for a head coach. They're probally keeping the former staff together in an effort to keep the team intact.

That could be one reason, but the CCU president said they are keeping their staff because they don't want to spend the money to buy them out:
"It is not my intent to buy out any contracts. We are not flush with money," DeCenzo said of the four assistants' already signed contracts. "My talks with any candidate [will include telling him] 'We already have assistant coaches for next year. ... They will be here, whether one of them has been elevated to the position or they're [still] assistants.'

They run that basketball program on a shoestring budget (Buzz complained last year when they got matched up with Canisius in the Bracket Buster...he said it would cost too much to have the team travel up to Buffalo next year...how cheap is that?).

agree- esp w/ WEF
I couldn't believe it when I read that on their site- talk about HANDCUFFING your coaching search from the get-go
who takes a job like that and is told he can't bring his own people in?

Wow, that seems like a really bad situation over there at CCU.

I know people may have said this tongue in cheeck but why NOT throw RD into the mix? Here is some PURELY speculative reasons why:
1. It IS late in the year and the pool of available candidates is shallow.
2. He is familiar with the conference
3. He has demonstrated that he can recruit
4. He would be VERY motivated to knock of the Big Dog (Ok wishful thinking maybe) in the Conference: LU
5. Some people like a house with a pool, some people don't.
6. I am not sure how the other candidates would pan out: Gregg Marshall, Larry Brown, Jeff Meyer, and Buzz Peterson.
