Not only has Ikenberry turned the program around...he is really promoting his players, with a large number of Keydets participating in some very good summer leagues:

The VMI baseball program has announced that 15 of its players will compete in NCAA-sanctioned summer leagues, as the players will compete for 11 different teams situated in four leagues.

Junior lefthander Trey Barham will be the team's lone representative in the Cape Cod League, pitching for the Cotuit Kettleers a year after wrapping up his summer campaign with the Wareham Gatemen in the Cape. Seven players will compete in the Coastal Plain League, while six more will play in the Valley League, with two Keydets spending their summer in the Clark Griffith League.

Anyhow...to expand on a thread question SuperJon posted....does anyone have information on how many and where the LU guys are playing this summer.

PK's going to Alaska, and I only know that because of his girlfriend's Facebook.

The Cape League is first rate, plus the games are free to the general public--just bring up a lawn chair once the bleachers are full. If you are ever on the Cape and need something to do besides the beach and going out to eat, there is always a game in one of the towns to go to.

It's also probably one of the last free chances to get to see some potential MLB big names play. The Cape has produced a ton of MLB-ers.

Oh, I knew about the Cape. Anyone who follows baseball at all knows about the Cape. I know the Cape and the CPL, that's it.

(That's my old stomping grounds. The people up there love their Cape League; it really is the center of attention for summer outings for members of each town and for all the Dad's who have grand visions for their kids who are in little league. The fans from each town are very loyal and there is a sense of "regional" pride each town has in how well their team is doing against other towns.)

(BTW: If any Liberty players or alumni find themselves up on the cape for business or vacation, I know some friendly faces there who can give you inside info on the tourist sites, hook you up for church time and would be more than happy to catch a game or two.)

The alaskan league is a very good league. The Cape is the top, followed by about 6 or 7 that are real close, and interchange which is top each year. Northwoods, Texas, Alaskan, Valley, CPL, ACBL, and NECBL. We have a bunch of guys in the ACBL which is mostly in Pennsylavnia area, the same league as most our guys played last year. Abe, Aaron Philips, and Giammaresi are on the Kutztown Rockies, http://www.acbl-online.com/teamroster1. ... eason=2007. Ryan Page and Nate Thompson are on the Lehigh Valley Cats, http://www.acbl-online.com/teamroster1. ... eason=2007. Page was the 4th best prospect in the league last year after having very impressing #'s. I'm not sure where many of our other guys are playing this summer. I know quite a few guys stayed at LU last summer to lift, so I'm guessing that's what some of the younger guys will be doing?

I'm actually headed up to that neck of the woods (currently employed in the 757 at the moment) in a month to catch the Red Sox/Rangers game at Fenway...and I'm sure we'll probably take in a few
Y-D games...it would be great to see some Liberty players make the Cape League up there next summer. I think there were a couple of them last year or 2 summers ago.
