And on a different note...if this had been any school other than Duke (or any other BCS school for that matter), would the NCAA show such generousity?

if this had been any DA besides Nifong (unc grad), the case would have been dropped when it should have been instead of being used for political purposes and to scar duke

am I the only one who doesn't feel THAT bad for these guys.....this is what you get when you bring in strippers from the ghetto....

I'm with you, postman. These guys may have not been guilty of the rape charges but they are far from innocent.

I didn't mean to take a shot at Duke, it was more directed at NCAA bias between the haves (aka BCS conference schools) and the have-nots (everybody else). The question remains...would the NCAA have been this gracious had it been a non-BCS school?

The reason the NCAA gave them a year back is because I fully believe the NCAA was whispering in Dook's ear saying, "We can't have this, you need to cancel the season..." It just sounds like something they'd do.

though this team is far from being "good guys" this what the right thing to do by the NCAA IMO.

i feel bad for the guys because getting rape charges filed against you regardless of the outcome is hard to live with....

they were college kids at a party with a stripper...i probablly did more stupid things than that in college...i gave em a break...

Duke Lacrosse is not a bunch of "good guys". However, you can go to virtually any college campus and find a a frat or a sports team made up of roughly the same type of people. As Smoothie said, this was the right thing to do on the NCAA's part, not b/c the players are upstanding individuals but rather b/c, charges or no charges, the season should never have been cancelled in the first place. If Brodhead were any kind of leader, the NCAA and the players would not be in this situation.

I don't disagree with anything said, they should get their year back....but if they didn't get their year back I wouldn't feel bad for them.....yes stuff like this happens at colleges all the time....and charges like this come up all the time at parties, its the risk you take when you mix all of these elements together

yeah, if they didn't get their year back i wouldn't of cried "injustice"....life sucks and then you die, get a helmet and deal with it

nifong is an idiot though... obviously. he just screwed them (duke in general) over more than they were already asking for.

Honestly, I wonder if this had happened at East Carolina or at UNC-Wilmington would this have been such a huge story?

seriously doubt it. i honestly do not feel like it would have been AS big a story had it happened anywhere BUT duke.

I don't think it would be a big story with small colleges because nobody cares about it nationally....but if this same exact situation happened at any other major BCS conference school it would have been just as big of a story....no doubt about it

If ESPN wanted to make it a big story, yes. It shouldn't have been at big story at Dook.

as much as i hate espn and how they kill stories this wasn't only espn's doing....every major news network and america was talking about this story non stop for weeks and weeks....thats what happens with the race card is thrown in to the mix...the media eats it up....its too hard for them to resist such a "juicy" story

it was on the national news... for some reason whenever al sharpton decides to be involved in something it becomes a big deal.
personally, i have no use for him. he wants to turn everything into a racial issue, and most of the time it isn't

Who started the talks though? ESPN will start something and then it'll take off like wild fire.

And they are trying to get this Vick thing to spread the same way...I haven't quite seen it blow up to the extent of this....where is Sharpton when you need him!??
