Suddenly our chances at Elon this fall became even better. But you hate to see a team lose a QB like this:
Academic suspension ends Elon QB's career

ELON — Quarterback Wes Pope, who developed into the face of the Elon University football team and became a beloved figure among the campus community, has been suspended from school for the 2007 fall semester due to an academic honor code violation.

The sanctions will render him ineligible to compete for the Phoenix during the approaching season. And because the fourth-year junior took a medical redshirt year in 2003, this means his college playing career is finished.

Sly, that's where you're wrong.

If you knew Wes Pope, you don't hate this for him.

Why would I hate that? We reaped the benefits of a crappy Elon QB once before (see: Kye Hamilton). It would seem that our time has come again. Besides, I still have nightmares about the last two times we went down there and came back bloody, beaten and, in one case, mildly marinated in Wild Turkey.

I tend to have very little sympathy for those who become academically ineligible. Academics are within your control...go to class, teachers will work with you. Show an effort and teachers will work with you. Don't show up to class and suffer the consequences. ( I am not implying that this is the case with this dude...just making a statement in general...but if it is academic honor code violation, he was probably caught cheating someway...again, if that is the case...no sympathy!)

It was honor code, not eligibility. Douc---dude probably got caught cheating or plagiarizing or something.

Wes is a solid quarterback and would have posed some problems for us but he isn't the smartest guy in the world. He finally had a chance to be "the guy" and he dropped the ball.

Would you go so far as to say he "fumbled" it?
