Classic's return to valley is class act

The Western Virginia Education Classic is coming home.

The annual football game that raises money for Total Action Against Poverty's high school dropout program belongs in the Roanoke Valley.

The fundraiser hit the road to Lynchburg and Ferrum last year after Victory Stadium was demolished.

I attended last year's game at Liberty University in Lynchburg. The stadium was nearly full, and the crowd was wildly enthusiastic despite steady rain. Corporate sponsorships and ticket sales from the game raised a windfall of $24,000 for TAP's dropout program. In previous years, the program averaged about $10,000 each year after expenses.

agreed. im glad LU stepped up and helped out. it is good to have the game back in the valley though. if salem had not installed fieldturf, this deal would have never happened.
