Draft day is one of the best days of the year and the only reason I keep any tabs on college football (FBS).

Draft? When? Where? Boy, that snuck up on us. Who knew??

You'd think ESPN and its affiliates would at least give it a passing mention. Does anyone televise it? Thanks for the heads-up.

Let me preface the following by saying I'm from Detroit (please feel free to start a "end belcherboy's misery" fund), but it is looking VERY good right now for the Lions. The rumor is that there are 7 teams interested in moving up to get our #2 pick. Most are offering very good packages of picks to obtain the rights to the #2 overall.

I got a feeling this draft is going to have several trades. Especially in the first round. Just my gut feeling.

As one who has covered drafts for years, rarely do all the trade rumors ever come to fruitition. There have been fewer and fewer draft day trades in both football & basketball each year.

I just don't remember this many rumors in the past. Detroit has had a TON of high draft picks over the past 5 years and none have had the level of rumors this one has had. Perhaps they want to sell this draft more than in years past, but Detroit didn't have the trade rumors for the #2 (Charles Rogers) and #3 pick (Joey Harrington) combined that we have heard for this current draft. I guess we will see. Last rumor that seemed to be gaining steam was TB trading for the #1 pick. That might screw up the Lions.

If Johnson falls to #4, he will be the biggest steal ever.

Has anyone seen this article? It's been all over the messageboards. I can't wait to see this guy play.

For N.F.L. Draft, the Biggest (XXXXXXL) Sleeper

Image

GALVESTON, Tex., April 21 — On the edge of the Texas Gulf is a 370-pound football player who can execute a perfect forward flip.

When he lands, the ground trembles.

The player’s name is Walter Thomas, and as he kicked his size 16 feet overhead Saturday morning, onlookers studied the sculpted giant with curiosity and awe. It was the kind of reaction Thomas usually elicits from professional football scouts.

“I feel like I’m a big secret,” Thomas said. “The secret of the draft.”

The National Football League draft, which begins Saturday, does not really have secrets anymore. Prospects are timed and tested, interviewed and investigated, over and over again. Entire dossiers are prepared for second-string players.

I'm sure Sly has heard of him, right?

Wow! Big Walter getting love on FlameFans. Yeah I covered him in high school at Ball.

And for the record, Galveston may produce the best talent per capita in the nation. With only 40-60k in population they generally have a bunch of players in the NFL at any period of time like Javon Walker & Casey Hampton.

As for the first two picks, its what we all expected. But don't be shocked to see a trade involving Calvin before sundown (a la Eli Manning).

Washington steals the best defensive player in the draft. Players aren't going over the middle with both Landry and Taylor sitting there.

Wow, Miami passes on Brady Quinn for Ted Ginn.. HAHA. Quinn isn't going in the top 20 now.

Quinn may make less money, but he'll be on a better team.
