Ex-Grambling coach Robinson dead at 88
RUSTON, La. -- Eddie Robinson, who sent more than 200 players to the NFL and won 408 games during a 56-year career, has died. He was 88.

Eddie Robinson retired in 1997 having seen Grambling State rise to national prominence.
Super Bowl MVP quarterback Doug Williams, one of Robinson's former players, said the former Grambling State University coach died shortly before midnight on Tuesday. Robinson had been admitted to Lincoln General Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

and Eddie Robinson is THE all time winningest coach in all of Division 1 if Im not mistaken (contrary to what Dr Falwell said in both his introductions of coach Bowden)

I don't know for sure, but I did hear on the radio this morning that ER was at one time the coach with the most wins in D1. So Bobby, or some one else may have passed him in the last few years. Regardless, he did a great job at GU and Doug Williams spoke very highly of him today on ESPN radio.

Robinson is not the all-time wins leader anymore.

Grambling was not classified as D1 until 1977. Eddie Robinson has more total wins but Bobby Bowden has more D1 wins.
The all-time (any level) list is:
1. John Gagliardi (St. John's, MN, D3) -- 443 wins
2. Eddie Robinson -- 408 wins
3. Bobby Bowden -- 366 wins
4. Joe Paterno -- 363 wins
5. Amos Alonzo Stagg -- 330 wins
6. 'Bear' Bryant -- 323 wins
7. 'Pop' Warner -- 318 wins
8. Roy Kidd (EKU) -- 314 (oh, the memories)
9. Frosty Westerling (Pacific Lutheran) -- 301 wins
10. 'Tubby' Raymond (Delaware) -- 300 wins

it does not matter about how many wins. robinson was an icon for college football, and probably the greatest influence for the black football player back in the day. may he rest in peace.

Indeed...they even named a Coach of the Year award after him. You have to have had a pretty big impact in your field if they name an award after you
