It was planned to be a meeting where John Beilein told his West Virginia players how to prepare for offseason workouts. Instead, he told them goodbye. Beilein, who took the Mountaineers from mediocrity to two NCAA tournaments and an NIT championship, is moving on to Michigan.

"IS" but they have not always been... I got into this debate with SCAR...This a job that most coaches would take...and I think he mainly wants another challenage and they will pump out the $$$ up there in Chrysler country to get things done

I'm sure he was like most folks in the situation he was in. Just looking for an excuse to get out of West Virginia.

agreed GMTM. michigan used to be very solid, and used to be a top big 11 team. crisler arena needs improvements from what i hear, but this is a good pickup for michigan.

You would think he has to be on the list in Morgantown right now. How funny would it be to have the WVU coach be named Marshall?

Just looking for an excuse to get out of West Virginia.
All the good ones leave--Beilein, Billy Donovan, Hanky, Dr. Clauson, Prof. Davis, Cider, etc.
And, Sly, didn't WVU have a QB a few years ago named Marshall? That just seemed too weird to me back then.
I'm not sure which is a worse place to live, Rock Hill or Morgantown.

Since when is 22-13 and playing in the Big Ten considered "horrible"? Yeah they haven't been in the tourney in quite a while, but their ceiling is MUCH higher than WVU's. I got a feeling that 9 out of 10 coaches, if given the choice between coaching Michigan basketball or WVU basketball would choose Michigan. Just my opinion though, but I'm pretty sure I'm right!

you'd think WVers would be used to being made fun of. If you go on their boards they seem to have embraced it with goofy hick-like avatars. It's just a running gag.

Normally, you would be correct, but I think Huggy Bear is a WV alum. Maybe he would want to go back there. Why? I have no earthly idea, but stranger things have happened.

And WVU will be getting 2.5 million from the buyout, so they have a little bit of extra cash to work with right now.
