A Sea Of Red

This is the year of the Astros. Here are a few of my predictions.

1. Future HOF'er Craig Biggio records hit #3000. He'll start off at a pretty good pace then begin to fade with about 30 hits to go. By the time he gets the record, Chris Burke will assume full-time duties at 2nd base. Hunter Pence becomes the center fielder.

2. Roy Oswalt "finally" wins the Cy Young Award.

3. The Rocket returns to Houston to pitch from July-October. He wins 12 games in the second half of the season. He states that he is 99.9999999999999999999999% that he will probably retire after this season. However, he leaves the very distinct 0.0000000000000000000001% possibility that he will return next year. History will show that Roger Clemens actually pitches in MLB until he is 62. Each year, his season gets shorter and shorter until he finally throws his final pitch against his grandson, Koby Clemens, Jr.

4. Lance Berkman has another stellar year and finishes runner-up to Albert Pujols for the NL MVP.

5. Hunter Pence wins the ROY award.

Only 712 more minutes until the first pitch!!!!

Go ahead and rain on my parade, but there are 162 games left in the season and I can be optimistic for at least a day.

This is the one day a year I can predict a beltway series for the World Series. ..and just for today.

It will be a rebuilding year for the Nationals. Can't wait to get to RFK Friday night.

I do like the additions the Orioles have made with the improved bullpen, another year of a maturing Chris Ray as the closer. Jay Payton and Aubrey Huff are also two great additions. Steve Trachel should be a good #5 pitcher too.

Jason Jennings is a solid #2 but you are right that the Astros are expecting a lot out of the hometown lift for a 40-year-old Woody Williams in the 3-slot.

That said, they have enough offense to stay in ballgames unlike previous years where they drove Rocket crazy with no run support. Expect a monster year from Carlos Lee and Lance Berkman having each other for protection.

The Orioles should hold their own and I think will battle the Blue jays for 3rd in the AL East

Brad Lidge just gave up the booty.

Its never good to look UP at the Pirates in the standings.

Wheeler now has to be the closer. The 'Stros should've gotten what they could for Lidge when he had value.

Braves begin dominating NL East again AND go all the way for once...thats my prediction.

Lidge hasn't had value since Pujols sent the ball into orbit a year and a half ago. This is like 2006 all over again. At least Biggio got his hit and only needs 69 more until they move someone else into his 2nd base position.

Except you guys have a very skinny pitching staff outside of Oswalt and Jennings.
