Its a niche sport that has found an audience that generally speaking wasn't spending their disposable income anywhere else. I didnt' think the league would last a season and its been around now for a very long time.

When you have copycat leagues springing up everywhere you know you have something working right.

When John Elway is a sponser, you know it's gold! It's not like the guy lends his name to a line of furnature they sell at Sam's or anything.

I attended a Detroit Drive game at Joe Louis Arena in the 2nd or 3rd year the league was around. I also spent two years working in the front office for an AFL team. I really liked the game at first because anytime you can watch football out of season, its a good thing.

The more I watched, they less I enjoyed it. It took me a while, but I finally figured out why. The thing they used to push the most was the high scoring and excitement. The problem they have is that there is so much scoring that it stops being exciting. Basketball is a sport that has high scoring, but less than half of the possessions in a game result in a score. Football, baseball and hockey are even less. In arena football, most possessions result in a score. It becomes a game where the first team to make a mistake ends up losing.

I still enjoy the game to an extent and wish them well, but I don't think they will ever overtake the other major sports.

My dad and grandfather took me to a game years ago and we left when they were losing 50-0 at halftime.. heard the final score later that week and it was something ridiculous like 100-0.

I just can't get in to it.

Come on, medic. Not even with Jon having you livin' on a prayer to the final play? Of course the field can be slippery when when wet which could result in more business for you, dude. 8)
