Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz has good job security after leading the Hawkeyes to Big Ten titles in 2002 and 2004 and to four consecutive January bowl games.

But the Iowa athletic department still isn't taking any chances.

The university purchased the rights to FireKirkFerentz.com last fall in order to stop a growing trend of fan Web sites calling for the ousting of college coaches.

Iowa also has bought the rights to at least six other Web sites, including FireLisaBluder.com and FireGaryBarta.com. Logging on to either site will take browsers to Hawkeyesports.com.

I wouldn't mind if we did this for our coaches as S.O.P. ... it costs all of about $9 for a domain name... (cheaper if you find an internet coupon)... It's at least minimal effort to help the coach out and the investment of a few bucks adds to the appreciation the coach feels.

Why make websites when you've got message boards and Facebook groups that can do the exact same thing?

What's SOP? Sorry.

Also, LU's football camp will have a website. The brochures look amazing (great job Proto) and I figure the website will look nice as well. The domain is already bought, all that's left is for them to put the files on there I think.

if people want someone fired, getting rid of one website isn't gonna fix anything. like ATrain said, message boards and facebook are more popular than random support group websites. i think that school was just trying to kiss the coaches butt

It's not 'suppression of free speech' it's called 'Take your freakin' free speech away from threads relating to our coaches... You can still speak, just not at the expense of our coaches. The reality is that anyone can buy other names like "FireCoachSoandSo.com"
