I heard the rumblings, but the press release I just pasted the link to was dated today, i guess today made it "official". I'm not exacly a "campbell fanatic" so forgive my ignorance. I just figured i would spread the info since you're also a southern baptist college.

We're not a southern Baptist college though.

Technically not even Baptist.

The school isn't affiliated with any specific denomination but works heavily with the SBCV (Southern Baptist Conserv. of Virginia) which should point you to where its alligience lays.

Football to kick off Campbell Homecoming

A total of 79 players will hit the field for the first public inter-squad scrimmage game of the Campbell University football team during Homecoming 2007, Saturday, Oct 19-20. The scrimmage game is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Women’s Soccer Field at Gregory Circle. Coach Dale Steele said the game will be a great opportunity for fans to view the talent and ability they can expect when the University’s first football season in 50 years kicks off in the fall.

“We view the scrimmage game as another opportunity to improve and to compete against one another,” Steele said. “We’ve made a lot of progress as individuals and as a team in terms of learning to play the game at a collegiate level. This game is not only a chance for fans to see what we can do, but for the players to gain confidence in what they’re doing.”

In April 2007, Campbell made the announcement that it would field the first football program in five decades. A member of the NCAA Division I ranks since 1977 and the Atlantic Sun Conference since 1994, the Campbell football team will compete against similar non-scholarship programs on the Division I and non-I levels. The team will play its first game against Birmingham Southern University on August 20, 2008.

Campbell’s two-day Homecoming event also includes dozens of other activities. A golf tournament at Keith Hills Golf Club is set for Friday, Oct. 19, and visitors to the campus can get an early start on Saturday with the annual 5-K Heroes Run, sponsored by Campbell Athletics. In addition, performances of the fall musical “Little Women” will be given both Friday and Saturday nights, curtain time at 7 p.m.

Distinguished Alumni and Sports Hall of Fame awards will be presented on Saturday at 11:45 at a luncheon in Marshbanks Dining Hall. Those who don’t attend can enjoy an old-fashioned barbecue luncheon outside on Fountain Mall.

Special music performed on an outdoor stage, vendors selling handmade crafts, rides for the children, student displays and a Scottish Heritage Village are part of the Fall Festival that will be going on throughout the day on Fellowship Commons. And one of the highlights of the day, the annual Homecoming Parade, kicks off at 2 p.m. in front of the Rogers Fine Arts.

Sports fans will also enjoy men’s and women’s soccer and a basketball bash preview night on Saturday. The Office of Student Life will honor one special family for their contributions to education during half-time at the men’s soccer game at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, and women’s soccer at 3 p.m. will feature the half-time presentation of the Harvest Court.

Nice to see they've gotten over the hump in getting the program started.

The SBC designation is a tricky one. We have been recognized as an SBC schools at times. To become an SBC church all you have to do is give financial support to one of their missionaries. So even Methodist & Evangelical Free churches can become members of the SBC if they really want to.

Yes, we are linked with the SBC and plenty of other denominations. But technically speaking its not official even though nearly every major leader of the conservative wings of the convention have their children or grandchildren come to LU at some point.
