Tournament predictions....

I thought we could play a pre-NCAA picks game here. So if you feel led to play, bring it on. Correct first round predictions are worth 1 point a piece. Second 2 points, Championship teams 3 points. The right champion prediction awards you 4 points. If you have a better points system, than we can change it anyway you like. (it seems there could be a lot of ties)

I have not seen one big south game this year (I have seen several highlights of Winthrop), so my picks are going just on the stats I have seen and gut feelings.

First Round:
#1 Winthrop vs. #8 Charleston Southern (Winthrop easily)

#2 High Point vs. #7 Radford (High Point in a surprisingly tight game)

#3 Liberty vs. #6 VMI (VMI. I love my flames, but beating a team that you have had TIGHT games with 3 times is very hard. Reggie Williams sounds like a good leader who can take over this game. I hope I am wrong on this one. The first team to actually play defense might just win it.)

#4 Coastal Carolina vs. #5 UNC Asheville (tossup so I will take Asheville. Both games they played were close)

Second Round:
High Point vs. VMI (High Point. VMI will only get one upset, and their road ends here)

Winthrop vs. UNC Asheville (Winthrop easily)

Championship:
Winthrop vs. High Point (Close at first, but Winthrop puts it into gear .) Final score Winthrop 68 High Point 54.

Ok, I'll bite ...

First Round:

#1 Winthrop vs. #8 Charleston Southern
The Eagles essentially have a bye

#2 High Point vs. #7 Radford
No upset here ... the Highlanders just aren't very good

#3 Liberty vs. #6 VMI
There are reasons why we won the first two matchups and we will take them again

#4 Coastal Carolina vs. #5 UNC Asheville
I like UNCA in the slight upset

Semifinals:

#1 Winthrop vs. #5 UNCA
Not even a contest

#3 Liberty vs. #2 High Point
The Panthers present matchup problems for us but we have proven we can beat them and I believe we will once again

Championship Game:

#1 Winthrop vs. #3 Liberty
The Eagles would win 8 or 9 out of 10 matchups with us this year. But I'm calling for the upset in Rock Hill. Hey, I can dream can't I?

First Round:
#1 Winthrop vs. #8 Charleston Southern...
...WU in a laugher

#2 High Point vs. #7 Radford...
...HPU. Bye Bye Byron

#3 Liberty vs. #6 VMI...
...LU wins a buzzer beater, coming back from a double digit deficit in the 2nd half.

#4 Coastal Carolina vs. #5 UNC Asheville...
...Coastal. Asheville won't win two in a row in the Chicken Coup.

Second Round:

High Point vs. LU...
...our legs fail us after the energetic comeback and HPU advances.

Winthrop vs. Coastal...
...WU coasts.

Championship:
Winthrop vs. High Point...
...This is why they call it March Madness. Landscaping on the house. HPU in the upset. Marshall is more upset about the NIT bid.

It may be too early for some of us to look forward at the rest of the BSC tourney, but once we are able to...what will you be pulling for?....Winthrop to win and get a very respectable seed, or Winthrop to lose in the championship and hope we get two teams in the big dance?

The best case scenario now from LU's perspective is to have Winthrop win out and get a better seed where they can pull off a victory or two in the tourney. As much as it pains me to cheer on GM< I feel compelled for the good of the league right now.

I'm on the fence. I want the BSC to get wins in the tourney, but I'd like to see WU lose to see if they get an at large. I don't think they would but Realist is correct in saying they are somewhat of a media darling. It would be interesting to watch. Not to mention a shot of 2 BSC teams in.

I have never seen VMI's coach wear anything but a polo and a sweater vest.
