Since Fumblerooskie's son is playing on the team, let's give him a place to brag about his boy.

From the Lynchburg N&A on LC's doubleheader against Virginia Southern:

"Lynchburg 8-15, So. Virginia 6-7...Jeff Taylor (Heritage) added two hits and three runs."

And, according to the LC website, Jeff Jr. is batting is batting .467 in 15 AB, and here are his vitals:

Thanks, Cider Jim, but I'll pass on the bragging...
...other than I am so proud of the WORK he put in all summer, fall, and winter in getting prepared for the season...adding about 10 lbs of muscle in the weight room, working his tail off in the batting cage, and running 3-5 miles 2-3 times a week over the Christmas break.

For the team...
...I am really looking forward to watching them grow. Four freshman starters in the field, and only four seniors that really play a lot (2 are pitchers).

It's a long season, and I am sure that there will be as many "downs" as there are "ups." The competition gets tougher on Weds as they go travel to NC Wesleyan, who is #7 in D-III right now.

There was also a fine article in Thursday's paper that highlights all the local players that the LC coach has gladly brought into the program. The guy to really watch is Ronne LaBrie, the junior SS out of Staunton River...
...he is quite the player in the field and at the plate.

Talking about LC. I got my LC alumni magazine a few months back and the main sports photo was of an LC track star running in the hurdles on Liberty's indoor track. The word Liberty seemed to be plastered all across the picture as it was seen on each hurdle in the photo. It seemed kinda comical as they sent the magazine to their alumni asking for donations. Perhaps times have changed since my days at LC when the word Liberty was taboo.

...great day for some local players and several freshmen...

Lynchburg College defeated 7th ranked NC Wesleyan today by a score of 9-5. Senior RF Eric O'Brien (Cave Spring, Roanoke) and Soph. 2B Kyle Bradley (Wm Campbell) were both 4-4 for the Hornets, with O'Brien adding 3 RBI. Freshman CF Cameron Grant (Heritage) deposited a 2-run homer over the RF fence, and Freshman DH David Gaines (Jefferson Forest) added a solo shot as LC improved to to 9-3 on the season. Freshman LF Jeff Taylor (Heritage) added 2 hits along with his 3rd OF assist at home for the season. In a big day for the class of 2010, Freshman pitcher Conner Thompson gained the win with 6.2 innings of effective relief of injured SP Spencer Garrett. Not to be outdone by the rookies, Sr. catcher Justin Kelly threw out all 3 runners trying to steal, to improve his record to 10/14 runners cut down for the season.

NCWC falls to 14-6 for the season heading into a USASC showdown at Ferrum this weekend. The Hornets travel to Bridgewater for a key ODAC DH against the Eagles Saturday at noon.

...I don't know about a cannon. He's accurate and has a quick release. Played I.F. and C all through HS and Legion so he learned to get rid of the ball in a hurry.
