Apparently a CSU track athlete had a heart attack and died over the weekend. Keep the family in your prayers.
CHARLESTON, S.C. – When the Buccaneers returned to school on Monday, they returned one person short, after losing Josh Williams to heart failure over the weekend.

“Josh was definitely a leader on the track, and a spiritual leader for this team,” said Head Coach Tim Langford. “He started and led the team Bible study. On the track, he was picked second in the Conference in the 60m dash. We will miss him on the track and as a person. He never complained, and is the type of guy that every team needs.”

Williams was a senior, scholar-athlete at Charleston Southern, and won the 2004-05 sportsmanship award for the men’s track team. He was biology with a minor in business administration at CSU, and scheduled to graduate in May, but return to the team next year as a graduate student to finish out his eligibility. He had the second-highest GPA on the team.

The Buccaneers will wear a black band on their uniforms during the upcoming season in memory of their fallen teammate. They will also create warm up shirts with Williams’ picture on it.

A high school standout at East Ascension in Baton Rouge, La., Williams holds the 100m and 200m dash records, and was third in the state in the 100m. Williams transferred to CSU from Benedict College, with female track star Ebony George.

Williams died in New Orleans on Saturday afternoon. He was 22 years old.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Bethany World Prayer Center, South Campus at noon. A viewing is scheduled for 6 p.m., Friday at the Purple Shield Funeral Home in Gonzales, La.

Memorials can be sent to:

man. crazy.

actually- scary, esp for those of us approaching 40, miserably out of shape, and with no intentions of getting back IN shape any time soon.

maybe I should rethink that .

CSU athletics has been hit hard the last couple of years. A football player died in a car wreck two summers ago, a baseball player was killed last year in a fight on-campus, and then this...

Forgive my memory, but didn't a baseball player kill a football player (or something along those lines) a year or two back on campus?

What a shame. It's always a travesty to see someone my age die so young. Prayers go to their family and friends.

No...the baseball player was killed in a fight by another student (who wasn't a student-athlete)...

My memory is awful and getting worse by the year. Thanks for the clarification, WEF.
