Sorry guys, but I'm laughing. They fire a good coach a year ago and this guy leaves this year. It's called karma.

Maybe other Big South coaches are reading....?

Who? Bennett? I thought about it but I highly doubt it. He wouldn't go this late in the recruiting process. Bennett's a man of his word.

CGV resigned 3 weeks before signing day. GSU fans aren't happy at all.

And I don't blame the GSU fans for not being happy...looks like more rough times for the Eagles.

I can only IMAGINE whats going on over at AGS. the APP guys must be hysterical.

I think that coach was a tool. He took a playoff team to 3-8 in a year and left when he realized he couldn't do any better.

So were Nick Saban and Todd Graham until a week ago.

I thought about Bennett but he just signed that extension/raise so it doesn't seem logical.

Um, no it doesn't.

Panacea -- a hypothetical remedy for all ills or diseases; a cure-all

Maybe you meant 'pinnacle'?

My southern-hick translator wasn't working properly.

I was attempting to put it in mono-syllabic words that he'd understand, and "Big" and "deal" worked :D

no offense to your heritage, LIB

Lib, Medic may not comprehend such big words...so let me rephrase them: DWARF FROM THE NORTH!!!

Sorry Medic, I just couldn't resist on this one

I'd love to be a new hire right now...you have a built in excuse for a late start recruiting and what you do use is bonus for the next year when people actually have some expectations for you

Todd Graham received a contract extension and promised his players he wasn't going to Tulsa TWO DAYS before he left. If GSU wanted Bennett, they could get him regardless of extension. And I'd check to make sure the paperwork was completely finished in Conway before taking it as fact. Just ask the Giants right now about Bonds' contract extension.

Frankly I don't believe GSU would have any interest in Bennett or any other Big South coach. Just tossing hypotheticals around. My guess is they do indeed bring in one of Paul Johnson's disciples to please the masses.

Interesting tidbit about the coaching ranks: Quite often, after a head college coach's contract is announced to the public -- extensions included -- it goes unsigned by all parties for weeks or months at a stretch while reps on both sides hammer out the final details. This basically allows a coach to start work immediately on implementing his program w/o having to wait on the bean counters. Rarely does this become an issue but an exception that comes to mind was when Mike Price was fired from Alabama after 4 months on the job, he received no severance and lost his court case against the school b/c he had never actually signed his contract. There's also the case a few years ago of when Rick Comegy was hired away from Tuskegee to Norfolk State, he was on the job at NSU for three months and felt that many of the promises that the school had made to him were not going to materialize. Since he still hadn't signed the contract, he simply packed up and went back to Tuskegee.
All that said, I wonder if the ink is dry on CDB's new deal. It probaly wasn't on Graham's.

Still, if I'm a beach chicken, I'm not worried. Word has it that they've already lined up Chris Hatcher from Valdosta State.

You are correct that everything wasn't finalized at Rice with Graham (hence my earlier my post) ... incidentally Hatcher is a candidate at Rice right now along with Mike Coker, Mark Stoops, Les Koenning Jr. and Paul Randolph. I'm sure Coach Wach is watching that seardch with some interest.
