Price Signs With Agent; Enters NFL Draft

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Nation’s leading receiver, Maurice Price, announced Monday that he has decided to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft. Price and fellow Buccaneer Collin Drafts are in California working out, having signed with agent Bert Briones.

Price led all of Division I football in receiving last year with 103 receptions, becoming just the seventh player in Division I-AA history to record more than 100 receptions in a single season. Over the past two seasons, Price ranks third in receiving, trailing only Davonne Bess (Hawaii) and David Ball (New Hampshire). His 175 receptions over that time rank him ahead of receivers such as Dwayne Jarrett (USC) and Calvin Johnson (Georgia Tech).

During his three years at Charleston Southern, Price became the all-time leader, at CSU and in the Big South, in receptions and receiving yards. Price also set the League mark for games with at least 10 receptions, doing so in five contests.

Following his outstanding junior campaign, Price was named to the Associate Press All-American team, The Sports Network All-American second-team, and was named to the College Sporting News Fabulous 50 FC All-Star team.

Price has worked out just one weekend, but the 6-1.5, 196 pounder has already run a 4.4 40-yard dash, and had an impressive 11 foot broad jump.

CSUSPORTS.COM will feature a weekly update of both Buccaneer’s progress as they approach the April 28 NFL Draft.

Based on the story I am guessing that agent for Drafts is the man behind this bad idea.

What's the big deal? So long as he never has to work out over the middle with a safety waiting on him, he should go as high as the 1st round. And we all know that never happens in a real game.

Say it with me, people: sssooooofffft.

On one level -- a level far removed from this plane of existence, of course -- it kind of makes sense. CSU will likely be in full re-build mode next year and their QB situation is iffy to say the least. I'm betting that somebody told this kid that his stock is as high this year as it's ever going to get. While that's probably true, he'd still have a lot better shot at landing a job with that business degree than he will in the League.

Yeah...I'm not sure I understand this move...he's a solid WR, but I never looked at him and thought he was a sure-fire NFL guy (which I would think you would have to be to leave early).

I'm not sure they will be in full rebuild mode...Yes, losing Drafts is huge, but they'll have the Big South's leading rusher from 2 years ago (Andre Copeland) back after he missed this past year due to injury, they don't lose a single offensive lineman, they have their 2nd best receiver returning, their whole starting linebacking corps back (which was the strength of their defense), and about half of the remaining part of their starting defense back. Obviously, alot hinges on the quality of their new QB, but the cupboard isn't completely bare at CSU, though this move by Price doesn't help them.

I'll grant you that Copeland was pretty good that year but that was also a down year for running attacks in the league. Coastal couldn't keep a back healthy and we and VMI were just terrible. As it was, Copeland only ran for 720 yds to take the league rushing crown and I seem to remember that we held him under 40 in that horror show we put on down there.
They also do return Murry, their #2 WR but you have to remember that the difference between #1 WR (Price) and Murry was 72 catches. He was #2 more or less by virtue that he started on the other side.
Yes, they bring back their O-line but that really wasn't a very good unit to begin with. Also, those LBs and that defense are wildly overrated. They might scare the good folks at G-W and Edward Waters but they don't frighten me in the slightest.
On the offensive side of the ball, Drafts and RB Robert Adams were very "aware" players and losing those two guys leaves a giant hole in the backfield. The backup options at QB are woefully inexperienced and I think you'll see them going to the run much more often next year.
Who knows? If they can get another 5 non-DI games on that sand dune they call a football field again, they might have a decent year.
