Who knows who Alabama’s true number one choice was but I do know for sure the agents for Lanning, Sarkisian, and Norvell did exactly what they were supposed to do and used this leverage for more money.
All of the coaches you mentioned to include deboer have the same agent, Jimmy sexton. He also represents Hugh Freeze and almost every other coach in the SEC so it's no surprise he leveraged this situation to get several of his clients raises.

Haha wow. That’s awesome. A lot of people definitely got played then. He absolutely made himself tons of money on what was likely fake interest from Alabama for at least one or two of these guys.

This is nothing new. Coaching agents have had colleges by the nuts for years now.
