Will Smith Confirms Basketball Buy-Out
By WENN| Friday, December 01, 2006
HOLLYWOOD - Will Smith has confirmed he is in negotiations to buy his hometown basketball team, the Philadelphia 76ers.
The movie actor and former basketball star Julius Irving are in the middle of talks to take over the team, which features sports hero Allen Iverson.
Smith says, "We're looking into the purchase of the Sixers."
If the buy-out goes through, Smith will join the likes of Nelly and Jay-Z, who are the co-owners of National Basketball Association (NBA) teams the Charlotte Bobcats and New Jersey Nets, respectively.

hey- whatever. Philly fans will go with ANYTHING at this point.
All we have are memories of Dr. J, Moses Malone, Bobby Jones, Mo Cheeks (player, not coach) and a few decent years w/ Barkley.
ugh
SCAR, can I get an AMEN?

He at least we won a game in that series....they got the sweep a year later i think. But we need some new direction and that may possibly include trading Iverson for a new core of players if a deal can be worked.

agreed. Like when the Flyers traded Lindros for an entire new team (slight exaggeration)
definitely a good idea at this point, IMHO

wow- good point HAIZE. Totally forgot about him
and I'm thinking I can't afford those shares. Maybe Mr Media, Timmy S, will return to his roots and take a significant stake in the enterprise, representing us SE PA boys.
He's got the money for Stately Scarborough Mansion, as well as a penthouse suite in Richmond, probably offshore holdings as well- he might as well diversify a little more.

"In West Philadelphia born and raised, on the playground is where I spent most of my days..." I think this is a good PR move. I have a few friends that know Will. Maybe I can get some tix for us Medic but that is about it. As far as Sixers of the past, I got to meet that 83 team when I was in middle school. We got to play on the Spectrum floor not once but twice that season. It was like a dream! Clint Richardson, Clemon Johnson and Sedale Threat were some others on that team! If you remember those guys you are a true fan. How about Marc Iavaroni? He is a Phoenix Suns assistant now I believe. Jelly Bean Joe Bryant and Henry Bibby ended up having a couple of sons that have impacted the NBA game somewhat as well.

SCAR, who was the old play-by-play guy (now passed on) that used to do that real distinctive call: ERRRRRRRRRRR-VING!
or: CHEEKS! (real short/clipped)
great old guy. will never forget that stuff.
Yeah, Sedale Threat was great too- man, that was a LOOOOONG time ago- I have an old, now yellowed- pennant from those years where it seemed we won the Eastern Conf every other year (when Boston wasn't winning

)

Medic that guy was Dave Zinckoff. He died on Christmas day in the late 80's. It was a sad day in deed. He made the game fun to go to. The team wasn't that bad either. My favorite Zinckoff call was "The Philadelphia 76ers organization would like to THANK YOU for NOT..........SMO-KING. He was brilliant.
