Gamblin'

There was a time, a little more than five years ago when being the guy betting on the over in the Hawaii game made you a degenerate. Since the Supreme Court overturned PASPA everything has changed. ESPN has spreads and lines in the bottom score bug, gambling-based TV shows are on every network, and you can't watch anything without an ad for a sportsbook. Like it or not, legal sports betting is here and isn't going anywhere. Sorry, Ballcoach.

Now thankfully I've been betting on sports for like 12 years now. I've always done it responsibility and I figure that I might as well use my knowledge of sports to make some money. There's no better time of year than the start of September when CFB and NFL are fully kicking off. With sports betting legal in VA, NJ, and a handful of other states, I figured we could talk a little gamblin' here.

Yesterday LU was -22.5 on a couple of books and the moment I saw that I unloaded and told everyone I know. The line has since moved to 23.5 (this means a lot of people are betting on Liberty and books need to try and get money on the other side). I wouldn't be shocked if this ends up closer to 28 by kickoff on Saturday. I can't imagine a situation where Liberty doesn't score 45 points and I can't imagine a situation where Campbell scores more than 21 points. If both of those occur you're still safe with 23.5.

So gamblin'. I might be the only one here but over the years it's made major Liberty wins even more thrilling. The Mississippi State win was even sweeter when I cashed a $300 ticket when the buzzer sounded (I spent the whole thing on beverages for everyone within a stone's throw of me at the sportsbook. Not my best moment).

Share your picks, ask some questions, pray for my sinful soul. Either way, let's find some winners.

(I have the under 52 n this Jaxonville State UAB game right now. 10-0 at half so I'm feeling pretty good. Stand by)

The amount of my former sportscaster colleagues who are major sports bettors is staggering. I am so risk adverse that I never caught the bug. But I do enjoy the discussions for entertainment purposes only.

My buddy Michael Jenkins who was at NBC Sports Washington has now moved fulltime into sports betting television. Jenks is making a very good living in his new gig.

Just a matter of time before some college player(s) are involved in a gambling scandal. Probably NIL related, in someway. The rogue agent they sign with, will probably be a bookie or gambler also.
NCAA sports are becoming too money hungry. I saw yesterday that FGCU becomes first ASUN school to sell beer at athletic events.

I've never had any interest in betting but.enjoy looking at odds.

Speaking of gambling, Caesars is building a 500 million dollar casino and convention center in Danville.

I had like seven white claws in a half at a certain Rutgers game in 2019 it might have been a record. Capitalism always wins baby!

Anywhom. I'm glad there are people out there that don't gamble on sports but understand and respect its value in the world today.

Over/Under in the LU game is out and they have it at 53. I personally lean under but it all depends on if Campbell scores.

Some interesting lines tonight. OSU -14 against Minnesota. The line hasn't moved much with a ton of public money on OSU so it says they think PJ Fleck keeps it close. CCU line has been moving a bunch. It's at 33 now but that's such an odd number.

Tonight I have OSU -13.5 (I'm a giant square) and Boise ML (+190). 4-0 in single games so far this CFB season but I think tonight I falter somewhere.

@TH Spangler i didn't realize that the plans were passed and confirmed. Although I don't promote gambling, that's going to help Danville a lot financially and could be beneficial market wise with Lynchburg. Pros and con's, pros and con's  .

The only "official" sports bet I've ever made was betting on Liberty to cover the spread against UNC in their first trip to the NCAA Basketball Tournament. I happened to be in Vegas on business that day. Liberty was still strict enough and I was still young enough to enjoy the perverse pleasure in betting...on Liberty. :) And as most of you know, I won. Play Basketball

Have Danville call any community in the country that has existing casinos with the exception of Vegas and find out whether they would do it all over again. They destroy economies and communities become blights in their regions. Just my two cents having spent way too much time around casino communites for years.

@Sly, my first thought, too. But Danville is already a blight. So no big.

Danville has been getting a lot of attention from Richmond and Northern Virginia lately. A lot of Tim Scott enterprise zones there.

Here's another project under way.

Here's another one that's ready to go.

1994. My roommate and I made the trip to the old Cap Center. That UNC squad was loaded and we stayed with them for 32 minutes. Good times.

Someone should be banned from stadiums for life.

If you reside in VA, you can't bet on VA teams.

I found that out last night. I made my own wager in the stands. Upset the fans in our row as I was cheering hard for the Camels defense that last drive :D
