Go Patriots!

Their ace is Cal Eldred's kid and Andy Pettite's son comes out of the pen. I love that they are still riding this DI exemption as long as they can and using it to make some noise. I know SumItUp probably has some thoughts.

Forgive my ignorance but what's the D1 exemption?

Once upon a time, you could play up at DI in one sport while keeping the rest of your sports at D2 or D3 level. That is what we did with baseball back in the '80s. But a fe wyears back the NCAA changed the rules. All those who were already operating that way were grandfathered. A number of the schools with the exmption let it slide or moved all the way up. DBU has had a great baseball program for decades and focuseed its athletic budget there as a result.

Ahh gotcha. Thanks. I never knew that was allowed. The '80s with LU doing that are just a hair before my time. You old timers just know everything...

Old Timers are normally the smartest.

I'm pulling for Dallas Baptist in this Super Regional.

I normally like to root for other teams from VA, but can’t quite get there here.

Funny thing is I grew up a huge UVA fan, but when I got in the professional world I was introduced to quite a few fairly insufferable UVA grads that ruined it for me. Ended up at VT for business school and the rest is history.

I should add that I have more recently worked with several really great people who went there. That and Tony Bennett have caused me to come around a bit.

Should be interesting. UVA’s power arms versus UT’s power bats.

Hook Em Horns! The first and only team to advance to the CWS in nine consecutive decades. I covereed their 2002 championship in Omaha. Two weeks in Omaha is a very long expanse of time. If you go, avoid late night dining across the river at the casinos. It may be thee only thing open after 9pm but you will regret the food poisoning that ensues. The most miserable few days of my life pre-COVID were spent in agony at a Omaha hotel thanks to some late fried shrimp on that trip. Ugh.

Anyone flying into OMA will pass through a sliver of Iowa departing the airport for downtown Omaha, as well as on the return trip back to the airport. That is how I count Iowa on my states visited list: http://omaha.net/eppley-airfield

And if anyone wants to go about an hour outside of town, the Holy Family Shrine is worth a visit: https://holyfamilyshrine.com

Omaha is 9 miles closer to Lynchburg, than Oklahoma City. If Liberty ever makes it, I'm hitting the road.
