The sport fishing social media world is buzzing this morning about the passing of a legend, I saw this video posted. It's Mr Tillet blessing the Big Rock Marlin Tournament participants on a vhf radio. In his payer he mentions Liberty University Board of Trustees member and alumnus Tom Coble who was a best friend to Doc. Tom died in a plane crash in Alabama on Friday, Jan. 20 2012 ..... "Coble will be remembered at Liberty for his work on the Board, for his support of Liberty’s School of Aeronautics and for being his father’s personal pilot. From early 1976 to mid-1979, Coble flew Liberty founder Dr. Jerry Falwell, Sr. to speaking events all over the country."

I have fished in the Big Rock a couple of times, it is a very professional event. Caught a Blue Marlin too, but it was less than 400 lbs, so did not take it out of the water.

I fished it once ... many years ago. Your release one-upped me; we had a blue crash our baits but no hook up. It paid the winner $750,000 this year. The guy I fished with is still at it, he finished 9th in the release category this year.

Omie was an amazing guy. He pretty much designed that big Carolina flared bow you see around the world now. He shared his simple witness with rich and poor, won many to Christ.

Very cool. It is a lot of fun and as you mentioned the winner picks up a nice amount of cash. Not sure how much longer I am going to fish in it. I don't own a boat, so I am dependent on a friend. It is certainly a well run tournament. Take care and thanks for sharing Mr. Tillet's testimony.
