In the case of Buzz, he was well compensated at VT, and although the A&M job pays somewhat more, I'm sure it had a lot more to do with the fact that He is a Texas native who went to college and played basketball there as well as spending several years there as an assistant coach (including 2 years at A&M). Add to that the fact that the facilities at A&M are among the best around, and I have zero problem with his decision.
For Young, who is 55, this presented an opportunity to test his coaching abilities at the highest level before his career ended and do it just up the road from where he was born and raised. I don't know what he made at Wofford, but I feel pretty safe in saying he is now in a position to upgrade his lifestyle and make his family's financial future more secure.
Edit: Based on the info Manson provided, Young would have been a fool not to take the job. If increasing your income more than tenfold is greed, just call me greedy.
