Ballcoach, if HCHF and EM offered you the job as head of security at all LU sporting events which paid considerably more than you are making at your Altavista job, would you pass on the promotion and stay employed where you are now? (serious question)

Of course, he would likely have to stop his FF posting.

From Southern Conference to ACC is a move up. From ACC to SEC is a lateral move, or maybe even down a notch for basketball.

From what i hear young was down the list a bit. Then its a large overpay. I mean i get the “thats what acc coaches make argument but i believe there are several in the 1.3 to 1.5 range. Bc for sure.

I think tech struggles to win 14 games.

Tech is a bottom 5 acc job due to facilities resources location and the fact that you have duke unc uva fsu lville and boeheim to deal with on a year end year out basis.

Buzz didnt an unbelievable job there.

BC, you can’t just compare conferences. VT to A&M is absolutely a move up professionally. And the man has deep Texas roots, so it is a big positive move personally, too.

+1 it’s about the job not the conference

I would have scoffed about A&M being a step up in hoops but then two things enterd my mind:
  • 1. The Ags actually have had some decent runs in the past decade after a century of being awful

    2. There is a growing sense in the Sly household that Sly Jr. could be an Aggy next year even though he is Longhorn/Flame to the core.
I am still uneasy about both of those concepts. But I am coming to grips with both in the event my son doesn't improve his SAT/ACT scores just a bit.

VT is only a good job based on salary and the oportunity to occassionally upset the big boys. Buzz probably took the program about as far as they could go.

If Sly, Jr. has at least 12 dual enrollment college credits with grades and at least a 3.50 GPA, he could apply to our LU Honors Program as a transfer student, and his SAT/ACT won't matter.

To get into UT and A&M the dual credit actually works against him in enrollment coming from a homeschooling background. Schools like Texas Tech and Houston don't care. But those big two are tougher to crack. We live in a community that is not in a community college district so it is actually the same price to take classes at Sam Houston State (which we are considering) as it is Lone Star College (the closest community college). Our goal was to get him into a school and then CLEp his way ahead since his classes he takes are much more rigours than the community college classes his friends are taking.
