Missouri hit hard by NCAA

The Missouri football, softball and baseball teams have been hit hard by NCAA for violations involving a tutor doing work for players. Punishments include a post season ban for 2019.
Somewhere in Chapel Hill, NC, Tar Heels are smiling.

Things like this are going to push the bluebloods into pay for play and bolster the NAIA

Mizzou is already struggling with bringing students on board the last few years. I'd imagine this will not help their recruiting processes .... Maybe HF can can TRANSFER a few .... Poach Hugh, poach

NCAA should leave Missouri alone, and go after the schools that really cheat. (on recruiting)

I get that the NCAA is showing their hypocrisy but a tutor doing homework for multiple athletes shouldn't be ignored. Even if, for some reason, ballcoach doesn't see it as cheating.

I guess it isnt cheating, according to ballcoach but heaven forbid any of us say these athletes should be paid...

The NCAA apparently ignores coaches when they "buy recruits", as evident by the FBI Investigations. I have not heard of any school involved being punished by NCAA. Coaches buying recruits is the worse NCAA violation there is.
I know very little about tutoring, but there's probably a fine line between tutoring a student and doing the homework for a student.

No, there is not. That line is very clear. I would think you would be happy to see Mizzu punished as getting their just desserts for buying their way into the NCAA softball tourney last year.

Yes, that is good payback for the softball team. Since they are banned this year, that could help ASUN team get in as At-Large team.

The hipocrisy of announcing this on the same day they let UNC walk away with nothing for their fake classes is what makes this even more egregious. Did anybody else catch Jon Sundvold's furious reaction about possibly having P5 move away from the NCAA mess? Sunny wasn't exactly fiery in hsiplaying days. But he seemed worked up making his statement as Chairman of the Mizzou Board.

They don't want to pay their student athletes they make literally millions off of. For that fact alone, you should love the NCAA.
That is also the root cause for all of the cheating that goes on that you constantly get angry about. I am obviously not saying cheating is right, but it certainly explains why it is so widespread within high level college athletics.

Student athletes should not be paid. There are too many being paid "under the table now". If it were legal, the big rich schools would dominate recruiting more than they do now.
How can a small poor school complete with the SEC and ACC schools in buying/paying players ? An athlete goes to college to get an education, not to get paid for playing sports.

Not when it comes to Football and Basketball; those sports rack up billions of dollars alone. Maybe student athletes should receive some sort of compensation and those who cannot spend the money can transitioned back to FCS level like Idaho did. It would make sense since the students need an education right? I do agree that there's need to be a way to pursue paying students in a moral and legitimate way because what the NCAA is doing is actually "bad" business. Eventually paying players will happen; either NCAA establish a way of schools are going to split and create their own establish organization as already stated.

I hope there's no split. I did not like it, when they came up with this P5 crap. The playing field should be level for all FBS schools,, in every sport. If football/basketball players start getting paid, Title IX lawyers will have a field day. If you pay the football quarterback, you will have to pay the #4 player on women's tennis team, etc.

BC, you’re contradicting yourself. The absence of fair compensation for student-athletes creates the black market, under-the-table scenarios you decry. Schools and the NCAA make hundreds of millions of dollars off of these student-athletes, primarily those in football and men’s basketball - the majority of which are minorities. It’s one step away from slave labor. They are oppressed from being able to trade on their own image and likeness in the open marketplace. Yes, they should go to college for the education. But then the colleges, too, should be in only one “business”, that of educating these athletes as well as all students. But they’ve also entered the entertainment industry for profit. How do you justify that when the compensation for the laborers at the center of that entertainment is capped?
Why should a RB at Alabama be punished for taking $20 to sign an autograph? Make your case!!

You're more pro NCAA than you realize it is hilarious to watch you contradict yourself over and over again. The term student athlete was formed by the NCAA a long time ago and they have used that term to use athletes to make millions. If that is what the NCAA wants to do then that is fine but conferences are free to break off from the NCAA if they feel it is best for their institutions and their conferences.
As a capitalist, you should welcome that kind of thinking.

Just wait until another North Carolina school gets popped for cash drops on front porches. if you followed the Louisville scandal you'll know who i'm talking about. I don't trust the NCAA to catch them but if they do... woooo buddy.
