I guess we should move the Tubby conversation here from the Longwood hire thread. His first decision will be what to do about the situation with Andre Fox. I have no idea whether Tubby was part of the decision to deny him a release from his scholarship, but now that he is the coach, it will reflect on him. He can try to convince him to stay of course, but if the kid wants to transfer, from a practical standpoint I can't imagine he will not ultimately grant the release. It would be recruiting suicide not to.

I like the idea they blocked him until a coach was named. Now that he is, give Tubby a chance to make his case. If he still wants to leave, let him go.

That would be the sensible thing to do.

It's official: Tubby Smith is the new HPU head coach.

And HPU is building a new 4,500-seat basketball arena (with hotel) for his team.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago and wondered if LU will build their arena soon after knowing about this plan. Now both LU and HPU are planning to complete their new arenas by 2020. Is this a coincidence?

Same capacity, and both will be part of a larger complex with some components the same and some different. This will have a dedicated practice facility, which I believe will make them the only other program in the BSC to have one. Even considering that, the hotel and the convention center, that 100mil price sounds awfully steep, considering the fact that Woffords mini-palace only reportedly cost 40. Kinda strange that they have this all planned and have set a pretty ambitious timetable for completion, but they have one little matter they still have to decide. Where they want to build it.

In the press conference today, they announced it would be at the corner of Lexington & University, right next to the track/soccer stadium.

Our ASOR message board has more posts about the Tubby hire than HPU's message board has (only 2 posts).

No...their arena is old news. The article was from Jan 2017 and the idea was floated before then.

That's why I said LU make a decision AFTER seeing the news from HPU's plans.

I doubt we make any plans, based on what some other BSC school is doing or not doing.

I agree, other BSC schools have no influence on our plans, now or future. We don't intend to stay in BSC until Christ returns, as other BSC schools intend to.

I get that especially when Falwell stated that the arena was going to be built around this time back in 2014. He stated in about five years the plan should come into fruition. I just thought it was funny that both schools are building a new arena at the same time.

Nothing really strange about it. Both schools have been doing a lot of building and both needed new basketball venues (for totally different reasons).

High Point's current gym only seats 1,750, so their new arena of 4,500 will more than double the size of what they currently have.
