According to the local paper today, Virginia University of Lynchburg is dropping both men's and women's varisty basketball but keeping their football program.

I'm certainly no AD, but wouldn't football be a much more expensive sport to fund than basketball?

Apparently they get paid for most of their football games . Their football schedule looks somewhat tough. If they can't afford basketball, their finances must be bad.

They are trying to make the athletic department independently funded from the school itself. They a have number of guarantee games scheduled in football to help raise $. They are planning to build a new gym and restart the programs within 2-3 years. There's new AD in town and it looks like he is trying to get things on the right track.
