if this goes through....screw coastal. they should be kicked out of the league immed. i understand the need to go, but stick it out...their program is on the cusp of making the I-AA playoffs while playing in the big south this eason, and was close last year. sorry just venting!

I think next year is the year to see how Coastal really is. They lose a ton of their team this year. Next year will prove if they're good enough for the SoCon.

I don't think they get invited. I think the SoCon sits on their hands to see what happens in the other conference shakeups soon to come.

Coastal will get invited just to give the weak sister conference in the same geographical area another black eye. Don't think LU would jump if given the chance, either.

AG, those were my thoughts exactly. How can you criticize Coastal for making this jump when we all know LU would be dumping the Big South like the ugly step-sister if the SoCon invited us.
It is a great move for Coastal, very unfortunate for the BS.

OH NO. I'm starting to think like NICK :?

??? I was agreeing with you :|

I'm not saying we wouldn't, because I'm not in charge. If I was, we wouldn't. Talk about your lateral jumps. Everybody knows I hate the Big South. I used to have a quote in my signature about it. But come on, SoCon? The only thing they have that the BSC doesn't is an autobid in football. While I'll admit, that is important, I don't think it's as important as being in a better conference.

The SoCon has more of a name than the Big South. Saying you're competing with App St, Furman, Georgia Southern, CofC, Davidson, etc is a lot better than Radford, High Point, and Chuck South.

I assume you're talking about basketball since a few of the BSC teams you named don't have football and I can tell you ASU, FU, and GSU have not ever been relavent in that sport. If they were, it hasn't been within the last 10 years.

I was talking across the board. The Big South has Winthrop and Coastal and that's about it (LU in women's basketball and cross country).

SoCon has CofC, UNCG, and Elon in baseball, along with a few others.
UNCG is a power in soccer.
Davidson and CofC have both made noise in basketball.

SoCon has more noteriety.

Well, I guess there's no use in arguing noteriety.

1. It's subjective
2. It doesn't have anything to do with SC being lateral with BSC

In terms of recruiting, it's anything but lateral.

I know. That's what I mean. We are on the same wavelength.

what what what? That's where you were going with noteriety? Me thinks you need to get out of the Triad more often before you make assumptions about how popular App St. is. or UNC Greensboro.

I've been outside of the Triad. I know that in this area, the SoCon has more name recognition.

For what its worth, I agree with you, SJ. But again, according to the knowledgeable, I don't like anything about LU or anything associated with LU

hey it's cool. I know some see me as a homer (because I am most of the time) and I seem to always disagree with you A.G. The SAT antonym test makes you a ___________ .

You're right. I think we shall agree to disagree. No offense ever taken on this end.

I know that in basketball by those "outside" feel the SoCo is a better league then BS. On the officiating side they take newbies into the Big South first, then the CoCo, Colonial then ACC (if they are lucky) As for name recognition, thik HISTORY. In this area, VA NC SC, that is a big deal. The BS has NO history. And if it were such a lateral move then why are so many people wanting to make it? The Big South is a nice stepping stone for new D1's. It is a shame we have been here so long and / or the league has not improved.

recruits do not care what happened more than 10 years ago. I don't see the top ranked bball players in the country flocking to San Fransicsco. They want to go to a place that is successful now.

But people in NC growing up remember UNCG going to the tournament. They remember Davidson and College of Charleston knocking off UNC. No one in the Big South can say something like that.

I couldn't agree more. Growing up in the Northeast both conferences were completely irrelevant and unknown. The kids i knew from HS who were recruited( that didn't go to large schools which are known across the country) cared about scholorships, weather( any school on the beach has an automatic advantage), female population, playing time, things to do in the area and usually parents had some say because of distance from home. Maybe i am missing one or two things but that was about it. They dont' care that your team was good 10 years ago or even 5 years ago, society is has a " what have you done for me lately " mentality and it relates to choosing a school as well.
