The NCAA has settled a lawsuit over cost-of-attendance shortages in thousands of scholarships that, if approved by a federal judge, would be the second-largest legal settlement in its history at $208.7 million, according to a USA Today report.

The presumptive class-action settlement covers athletes who received traditional sports scholarships, instead of the kind the NCAA instituted in August 2015 that intend to cover the full cost of attending school, the settlement filings show.

The netire NCAA organization is wide open to cash in from litigators. That's why even the threat of legal action would make it relatively easy to gain an exemption to FBS status. Again, I hope we don't have to take that path. But it is there.

LU doesn't HAVE to do anything. Nowhere is it written that LU HAS to go FBS.

We certainly would be compelled if further delineation between P5 & G5 left us on the outside in an officially recognized Tier 3. That obviously hasn't happened yet but would be grounds for us to consider whatever means we have at our disposal to not get squeezed even further off the DI stage.

But that is a completely different scenario than the world we live in today. If the P5 up and does their own thing , which they should, and other schools come to their senses that FB is expensive and not a great ROI, you very well could see a big reshuffle. At that point, LU's relative financial stability will make it very rare and appealing for those Tier 2 schools, by whatever name they end up going by
