Playoff system

Well anybody that knows me (or at least remembers me from the other board) knows I am a definite proponent of national championships being settled on the field. Last year I worked with a friend of mine on a mythical "Heisman Bowl" playoff. Well its back...only smaller. Here are the 16 teams (based on conference and overall record through games played last week)

Clemson (ACC Champion)
Texas (Big 12 Champion)
Louisville (Big East Champion)
Michigan (Big 10 Champion)
Tulsa (Conference USA Champion)
Central Michigan (Mid-American Conference Champion)
BYU (Mountain West Conference Champion)
California (Pac-10 Champion)
Arkansas (SEC Champion)
Arkansas State (Sun Belt Champion)
Boise State (Western Athletic Conference Champion)
USC (Pac-10 At Large)
Florida (SEC At-Large)
Auburn (SEC At Large)
West Virginia (Big East At Large)
Ohio State (Big 10 At Large)

Now I know this would be up for debate but this is purely mythical so take it for what its worth. The matchups shake down like this:

Texas vs. Arkansas St.
Florida vs. Boise St.
Arkansas vs. Tulsa
West Virginia vs. Central Michigan
USC vs. BYU
California vs. Ohio State
Auburn vs. Michigan
Louisville vs. Clemson

For the next couple months Im going to post a different matchup every week until we get down to our final pair. First matchup: Texas vs Arkansas St.

yeah, this tournament is kinda cool but why not just wait for the actual champions? That way it's at least a little more acurate.

The way a playoff would work is take the top 6 conference champions (ACC, Big East, Big 12, Big Ten, SEC, Pac 10) and then have 10 at-large bids. That way the champion from the MAC doesn't take a spot for the 3rd place team in the SEC in a year where the MAC is absolutely horrible.

Great idea, but I agree that this should start up after all of the championships have been decided. I know I'll get jumped for this one, but if you are going to have a playoff with 16 teams, shouldn't you consider Notre Dame? What about the teams that don't win their conferences (like Michigan or OSU)?

Again, great idea, but maybe we could do it between the end of the season and the bowls.

That's why I said take your 6 conference champions and then fill in whoever else deserves it. That'll take care of Michigan/OSU, Notre Dame, etc.

that sounds fair. Hey mods, lock this thread for now if you would. It will be started back up once the conference champions have been decided
