Record crowd

at Coastal Carolina Saturday: 10,311 showed up.

How did they move to FBS with such puny crowds they draw, when NCAA requires 15,000 average for 3 year period.

CCU is the Notre Dame of FCS. Over rated, over hyped, over loved.

Where do you think other school's fans would like to travel for a weekend game? Lynchburg or Myrtle Beach?

That's what sold CCU, and the fact they they have a pretty good backer supporting them that is willing to spend money right now.

Would we make a better member? - I think so, but I also am biased and see everyday what is happening on the mountain.

Not sure I agree with the Notre Dame comment - ND is a pretty powerful brand, has always had a really good TV package and is known as the biggest CATHOLIC school in our continent and they're are still a few Catholics out there;)

ND is most "over everything" school in NCAA at any level. NCAA gives them special treats/favors because they won one for the Gipper years ago.

I'd be fine with over-rated, over-hyped and over-loved.

I´m not so sure Myrtle Beach is going to draw huge numbers of visiting fans to games at Coastal, but it´s irrelevant anyway. You build a program by filling the stands with YOUR fans, not your opponents. CCU has a long way to go to meet FBS attendance requirements, and it will take a lot more than expanding the stadium to do it. Too many retirees and snowbirds who either don´t care about football or are diehard fans of SC or Clemson.

What backer?

I assumed he meant that, but if so, he is wrong. Moglia has not given ANY money to CCU, and is on record as saying he will not as long as he is an employee there. For their sake I hope that Coastal is not counting on any huge amount when he leaves either, because he is neither an alum nor a ¨lifer¨and has no real reason to do so.

We have only had fewer in attendance than their new record once in the last 5 seasons. That was in 2013, when we had 7554 against D2 Brevard.

I believe that was also the last time we had less than 10,000 fans period olldflame not just less than CCU's new attendance record

I'm pretty sure we will talk about it every time they boast an accomplishment that we would consider to be an abject failure.

Probably at least as long as you continue whining about the whining.

Speaking for myself, my issue where things like this are concerned is with the SBC, not with Coastal.

This one has nothing to do with me going there. It has everything to do with us seeming petty and proving that we have an inferiority complex. Instead of celebrating the great things we do and enjoying them, we have to turn it around onto Coastal. They're living rent free in our head and it shows over and over how jealous we are of their success. It reinforces so many of the negative stereotypes about us that for the most part aren't true. I'd rather celebrate the progress we are making and leave it at that.

I do not like Coastal because they are the Notre Dame of FCS.(receiving too many favors). When they go FBS, I hope they "crash and burn" and come begging and crawling back to FCS. I don't see how they can maintain necessary standards for FBS with a stadium smaller than some high schools have. Now granted, they may expand, but that doesn't automatically bring in required # of fans.

I am not even remotely jealous of their athletic program. I wouldn't change places with them for anything in the world. I would like to be FBS, but not in their position. I don't see it ending well for them at all. Our trajectory is much more desirable than theirs.
I am kinda in the same camp with ballcoach. The issue I have with them is all the attention/love they get from the media/pollsters/conference,etc. for no apparent reason. There is zero justification for them being rated as high as they are in the football polls. They have beat no one and continue to schedule weak teams for their ooc games. Ditto for last season. The good thing is for me is, I won't have to be concerned about it next year, or anytime soon thereafter.

We aren't even remotely close to playing out the cycle of sports bitterness on this one. This will take years to get over. Especially if things don't work out for us anytime soon.
SJ and I have had this argument multiple times. but I will make one attempt at the "prom date" analogy, as follows:

We aren't the hottest dude but we really really really wanna go to the senior prom. So we've been asking this chick that we figured we could definitely get. She's not super hot, more like office hot. Well maybe more like the chick in Pretty in Pink that wasn't popular, but she's good with cars or something.

Anyway... we're all set to go, got the tux, rented the limo- we're just waiting for this chick to confirm. And nobody else asked her so this is all but in the bag.

Then we find that while we were stepped out for a smoke, this chick goes and slums around the 9th grade lockers and picks up the first freshman she finds. I mean, the kid isn't ready- doesn't have a tux or even a dress shirt or nice shoes, but she asks HIM instead.

Obviously we hit the ceiling, call her a skank and never talk to her again. Then we get hammered and run her down to everyone else at the bar.

someone needs to make a compilation of every prom date - analogy used on this board over the years. that was absolute gold.
