Fairly hefty punishment. I'm wondering if Ol' Roy is going to be getting similar news soon.

He has great reason to be concerned. Boeheim should have gotten out while his legacy remained somewhat undamaged.

NCAA should have also banned Syracuse from post season for at least 3 years.

That championship should have been vacated. NCAA said cheating dated back to 2001, but they elected to cut off the statute of limitations to one month after Syracuse won the championship? Great message you're sending there, it's okay to cheat so long as you win the national championship.

Personally I would have gone with a "scorched earth" philosophy with the sanctions: suspend the program for 2 years, then, vacate all wins going back to 2001 (including the 03 championship so I agree with you there shuk), an additional two year postseason ban, plus loss of 5 scholarships each of the next 4 years. oh, and Boeheim (if he is still the coach) is suspended for the first 20 games of the first season following the completion of the program suspension, plus zero recruiting during year one the program is shuttered.

There have been more egregious violations committed by other schools. It seems clear that this effort was not lead by JB but by people he trusted and they took advantage of that trust. The school self reported the violation and took action (although it's fair to be cynical) before the NCAA acted. What is going on at UNC is much more egregious and wide spread

Oh don't even get me started on what to do with UNC...it would make what I posted above seem like a slap on the wrist.

For UNC:

4 years program suspension
4 years postseason ban for football AND basketball AFTER the suspension
Vacate all wins dating back to the beginning of the alleged violations
Loss of 7 scholarships per year for basketball and 10 scholarships for football per year for 4 years
Current coaches involved in scandal suspended 6 games (football) and 19 games (basketball)

Oh, ole Jimmy knew what was going. The way he tried to pass blame was a major telling point in that.

You should know by now it's never his fault!

You pretty much should expect that when someone says that...they are already started
