Marshall won, and WVU lost--that's all I care about. Until Ole Miss plays. :football

Is Bob Stoops the worst coach on the planet at getting his team ready for bowl games?

I'm not the biggest Bob Stoops fan, but this is a ridiculous question. Is he the best in bowl games? No, and last night was terrible. But he's still a very good coach and his 8-7 bowl record is not indicative of the opponents that he has faced in those wins and losses. Less than 12 months ago, Oklahoma dominated Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

Bob Stoops is way better than Frank Beamer in bowls.

You gotta get up for whatever bowl game you play in, whether the Sugar Bowl, Music City Bowl, Heart of Dallas Bowl, BCS National Championship Game, College Football Playoff Championship Game or whatever.

It's rare but BJ has a point!

No excuse. That's on coaching.

Oh look, Ole Miss played nobody out of conference all season and doesn't have the benefit of the SEC's usual trick of scheduling down in bowl games, and they're getting smashed by the 3rd best team in the country. Tell me again about how the SEC is better than everyone when they duck P5 opponents on a level that no other conference does?

The sad part is Bama should do the same to tOSU and everyone will be blabbing about how great the SEC is again despite beating a creampuff that lost at home by 14 to the Chokies.

Again, two teams. One had everything in the world to play for. One had almost nothing.

TCU is the better team. That's why they were #3/4/5/6 and Ole Miss wasn't. They should have won. They smashed them bc they were motivated to prove they belonged in the playoff, not bc of Mississippi's schedule.
Worst excuse ever

Like I said, it does not matter which game it is, you gotta get up for the game in front of you. Ole Miss absolutely did not do that, and as PH said, that is on the coaches.

I do too. I really liked Louisville's helmets. Just wish the Cardinal was highlighted more. I could see us wearing those deep red ones

Seems like someone who has played and coached sports would feel differently.
If we were talking about a regular season match up? You'd be right.
However, a penultimate like a Bowl? You gotta compete

The daunting SEC West, where 3 of the 7 teams didn't play a single P5 opponent in their OOC schedule and 5 played an FCS team in November, will be 2-3 in bowl games at the end of tonight barring a miracle. Best division/conference my hindquarters.

The SEC West this year was good, not great, but they lived off their past accomplishments and everybody gets the "we played a tough conference schedule" BS to excuse them not playing anyone. One of the biggest benefits of the playoff is that the SEC can't get away with scheduling down in as many bowl games to further inflate their reputation.

Maybe next year we won't open with teams like aTm and SC in the top 15 in the preseason poll for no good reason. The SEC had a losing record this year OOC against P5 opponents. It's because they're not the force they've marketed themselves as and it's likely going to make them redouble their efforts to play almost nobody OOC.

The SEC has always been over rated. That is not to say they haven't been the best football conference but the media ESPN machine has overdone it. If you can't admit that then I don't know what to tell you.

BuryYourDuke wrote:What does a bowl game mean to anyone in 2014? Absent some outside motivation (like TCU had), not much. They should have lost regardless based on how the season played out. TCU had a legitimate argument to be in the CFP. Ole Miss wasn't the same team they were in October.
I agree Ole Miss WASNT the same after the injuries. But a Bowl Game, regardless, means something. If you can't get up for it then you need to check your motivation level. The only exception would be made for teams with interim coaches.

Look who they played. Outside of Auburn at Kansas State, LSU vs. Wisconsin (in Dallas), Alabama vs. West Virginia (in Atlanta), and Ole Miss vs. Boise St. (in Atlanta), the SEC West played nobody of significance during the regular season. The Pac-12 consistently schedules better than the SEC.

I think that the SEC is the best conference. But the idea that it is far and away the best conference is stupid. The Pac-12 is nearly on par with the SEC and the ACC is catching up. I think that the Big Ten will start to rebound in the next few seasons, too.

BuryYourDuke wrote:The SEC is the best conference. They aren't flawless, and the gap has closed some. I don't really think anyone serious has ever said otherwise, including ESPN (who is in business with the other conferences as well).
The SEC Network says that the SEC is the best conference by a considerable margin 24/7. ESPN has effectively run propaganda for the SEC for years. Case in point, their analysts picked 2 SEC West teams for the playoff for most of the season.
