Alex Ross - CCU QB

Did not see this mentioned anywhere else, so I wanted to bring it up. Met the CCU back up QB last night and he said Alex separated his right shoulder on the first drive of the NDSU Qtrfinal game. He refused to come out, which is why their passing game was so suspect.
Anyway, he has shoulder surgery today and could miss the entire 2015 season due to rehab. Would be a big hit for CCU, so wanted to bring the news here.

Coastalfans.com guys talking about it seem to think he'll be ready for preseason camp, according to HCJM

He would basically have to shred his entire shoulder to need a full year I would think

I could see him not being ready for the opener, but that seems like about the max.
I was thinking the same thing, but you never know the extent of the damage and how long recovery can take. In some cases, arms are never the same again due to the damage done. Tough break regardless.

He refused to come out, please. Since when did a player over rule a coach? If coaches knew he injured his shoulder and did not keep him out of the game, they are at fault. Would same coaches let him play if he had a concussion? This is 2014 not 1954

Don't be so sure. Players try all sorts of things

Ask Brady Hoke about that one. Don't kid yourself. This happens ALL the time in college athletics. Not just football. If a star player says he's ok to go and the Trainer isn't telling the coach no(and sometimes even when he does). The player will play.

It's also kind of expected of players to play through pain.
Coaches aren't doctors, and a lot of these decisions are made on the fly. If a players says he wants to stay in, most coaches won't put up a fight.

His exact words were "I'm not coming out of this f****** game". So you make your assertion as to whose decision it was at that time.
FFG is right, players rarely lead on to how bad the injury can be especially in a big game. There are too many examples to go off of this. Not a debate or an argument, just stating facts.

With him playing through it, the question is was there any additional structural damage to the shoulder

So let me get this straight the athletic trainers did not do any testing or xrays on his shoulders? And if they did they did not inform the HC? Please the inmates run the prison.

Trainer: "What hurts?"
Player: "I'm good"
Trainer: "Shoulder/knee/head/neck/wrist?"
Player: "No I'm fine" - walks away to coaches
Coach: "Hey what happened?"
Player: "Nothing, I'm good to go"
You can't seriously believe this doesn't happen on a weekly basis across all levels of football. In this specific instance, the trainer saw Ross was in pain and tended to him. Coach was there too and asked if he was okay. Ross assured he was okay and responded what I posted above. Not surprising at all that there were no further questions.

Doesn't surprise me either, but as I said above, the big concern now is if there is any additional structural damage to the shoulder because he kept playing and throwing and if there is, how that will affect him in spring ball and 2015, especially after surgery

If the kid can play then he is going to play, if he is the TRIGGER man like this kid unless its determined medically then he is going to play. I know kids who have played with torn ACL's for a whole season. And to answer your question yes kids finish and play games with concussions remember the QB from ODU, just last year and this year you had the kid from Villanova that played against LU with a concussion. So yes it happens.

Ross spoke to the head trainer (who also happened to do my right posterior labrum reconstruction in July of this year).
I have it on very good word that he was cleared to go back in and that he could not do any more damage to his shoulder and he is not anticipated to miss any games next year. He might not be 100% in Spring Ball, but CJM said he didn't do much in Spring Ball last year so that isn't a concern.

Glad he will be ok. Tuff kid.
