I am loving this billboard here in Texas following LeBron's latest ego trip with his opt-out:

I don't think opting out of his contract is an ego trip. Lol. I don't care for Lebron or Miami but don't see a problem with him opting out of his contract. Nothing wrong with exploring all of your options. Typically it's the wise thing to do.

To expand on your point, one plausible scenario is for him to come back to Miami after taking a pay cut. Not sure how that can be seen as an "ego trip." Let's wait and see what he does.

How is LeBron opting out of his contract an ego trip? It's the smart business decision from his end. Sly's riding his almighty high horse again with that one.

The craziest talk I've heard so far is LeBron and Melo to the Lakers and then trying to get Coach K to coach them. As crazy as it sounds, if they could pull that off, that'd be fun to watch. I doubt they get Coach K, but LA is one of the few places LeBron and Melo could play together if they wanted to.

The LeBron/Melo tandem is intriguing and IMO the only way he leaves Miami. Selfishly, I like to think the Heat can pull off getting Melo to Miami but I'm not sure if all 4 (LBJ, Melo, Wade, Bosh) are willing to give up as much as $10M annually.

Sorry to keep rambling on, but I have a vested interested in the 2014 free agency talk. The biggest key to Miami keeping LeBron is D-Wade. Wade needs to opt out and agree to take less money. I'm not sure if he will though, and I couldn't blame him. The $42M he's guaranteed over the next 2 years may be as much as he can milk out of what's left of his knees.

I suggest the ego trip is based on the apparent need to constantly be the center of attention. Is it a good business move? Absolutely. You always have to look out for #1. Wait, what? Apparently some folks take a different path.

Incidentally, who would you rather play alongside? Wade, Bosh and a geriatric supporting cast or Harden, Howard and one of the best young lineups in the association? I doubt Lebron comes to Houston and frankly I would rather he didn't. But there are lot of incentives for him to opt out other than taking a pay cut to bring his pal Melo to town since he always needs more and more support to try and win titles.

Yeah, I'm not sure why it is an ego-trip thing at all. Because people are talking about him now? That's going to happen regardless of what he does. If he re-signs with Miami for the exact same money/years as he would have made with Miami if he didn't opt out, then yes, I can maybe see how this is an ego-trip/attention-grabbing tactic. But even then, he had the contractual right to terminate the contract now, and he did. I can't fault a guy for fulfilling his contractual terms and then exploring his options after that. Much better than players that have moaned and cried to get traded...

This is stupid. First of all, Lebron isn't opting out to get a max contract somewhere else. He IS opting out to put himself in the best possible position to win NBA championships. Don't most people complain that Lebron can't win championships? (Although, he's won two and been to four straight.) Don't most people complain about athletes being more concerned about money, and less concerned about the "love of the game?" If he had opted-in, he would have only suffocated the Miami franchise. There is a VERY good chance that he takes a pay cut to stay in Miami, that is contingent on if DWade opts-out.

How on earth is this an ego trip? He wants to be the center of attention? Really? No one expected him to opt-in. He hasn't done anything to drive attention either, all of the attention that he's received has been due to the media and fans. What has he done to get more attention?

And lastly, he isn't teaming up with Melo. That's ridiculous.

If Lebron hadn't of done 'the decision' special then him opting out isn't a big deal. I mean it is, but it wouldn't be scrutinized by some like it is. I am not a Lebron fan by any stretch of the imagination but him opting out has nothing to do with him desiring to be the middle of attention. It makes perfect business sense. He will guarantee he will be making max money for longer into his career and Miami will pay him. He isn't going anywhere.

When I saw who the OP was, I thought this was about another LBJ, one from Texas.

If that happened, they would just forget about the World Cup, baseball and pretty much anything else in the world of sports until football season starts.

Opting out an ego trip? That is one of the stupidest comments I have ever seen posted on here.

We're dating ourselves. Half of the guys in the thread are trying to figure out what we're referencing.

That was my first thought as well. Of course, I am anything but an NBA fan, so I didn't know they were referencing Le Boring.

Bron bron better get his. Anthony davis will be the best player in the league within 2 years barring injury. He has a true center and decent talent around him now.
